It is obviously easier if the costal states come up first, but it's a geographical eye opener. My first run was 86%/33miles/347seconds.

I'm a Canuck, and I scored 44 perfect out of 50 (88%), average error of 14 miles, and 256 seconds. And the ones I "missed" were western states like Wyoming (the first state it gave me), where you're trying to place a big-ole rectangle in the middle of a blob, without any guidelines. OK, so I had to play a bunch of times till I got it, but in my defense I didn't have to wait until I got a play without any blind placements--I hit both Kansas and Nevada right on without any adjacent states. Interesting combinatorial problem: given a random order of states, what is the probability that it will require no blind placements? (A blind placement is defined as one which is not along a coast, an international border, or adjacent to a previously placed state. Consider the four corners states to all be adjacent to each other for the purpose of this problem.)

First try: 98%, 2 miles, a leisurely 377 seconds. Once you've placed two or three interior flyover states, it's easy. Plus they tell you the name of the state, ferchrissakes. What's hard is telling Colorado and Wyoming apart strictly by outline. The only one I got wrong was Missouri, I was slightly off, but it was the first one. Once a couple states were placed it got much easier.
