Fuenf Sterne Deluxe (site in German, and flash, so no babelfish...) is one of the few rap/hip-hop bands I listen to. It's German, and very well produced. The songs are enjoyable and reasonably intelligent. Admittedly German does sound a bit scary in rapper form, but this band doesn't sound like a joke.

I second the recommendation for Fuenf Sterne Deluxe, who are one of my musical favorites. Also check out Die Fantastische Vier and Dynamite Deluxe. Apparently, in Deutschland you have to have a number or the word "Deluxe" in your name to kick die funky Beatz.

What, you've never heard of Bomfunk MCs? Some german guys singing about hip-hop over euro-dance beats. I swear they sing phonetically, some of their pronounciation sounds strange sometimes. I don't think they're a joke though.

(okay, not all time, but you know . . . ) I think you're talking about "Nordisch by nature" by Fettes Brot. It's actually mostly in Plattdeutsch, which is not a German dialect, but a separate language (with similarities to German, Dutch and English) which is spoken in Northern Germany.
