Hmm. The puppets are cool, but I gotta dock you for the double post. posted by grabbingsand at 10:09 AM on December 13, 2004
We've seen matrix-pong several times before, but the Bunraku stuff is interesting. posted by falconred at 10:11 AM on December 13, 2004
Man, I thought I'd be safe because I'd searched "ping pong" and "pingpong" and combinations with "matrix" thereof. I didn't try "ping-pong". Apologies! posted by Specklet at 10:21 AM on December 13, 2004
I think I'm going to make my first FPP tomorrow. I bet nobody's heard of Zombo.com, Strongbad, geocaching, confluences, or the seven-story jesus.
I might follow-up with a compendium of links to albinoblacksheep. posted by dmd at 10:30 AM on December 13, 2004
Hey DMD, don't you think I might already be feeling enough contrition at my double post that you don't need to blow your holier-than-thou veteran horn all over my post? I'm learning, man. Don't be so snotty. Sheesh. posted by Specklet at 10:56 AM on December 13, 2004
Specklet, people generally are much bigger assholes on the internet than they would ever be in real life. He's venting because you're invading on his e-turf, forgive him. He knows not what he does. posted by spidre at 11:12 AM on December 13, 2004

I don't see how that can be when dmd hasn't posted any links, ever. Let the apologies stand - the point has been taken. posted by scarabic at 11:27 AM on December 13, 2004
Ha ha, who's the n00b now? Sorry about that. The play is Love Suicide at Amijima. But really, I'd love to watch any bunraku performance, and I don't know how long it'll be before I get a chance to do it in person. posted by Eamon at 12:33 PM on December 13, 2004
Wow, I'll have to check out Double Suicide, looks fantastic. I've never heard of Masahiro Shinoda... Thanks for the links! posted by Specklet at 1:25 PM on December 13, 2004

I'm really intrigued by this comment. If we only knew what? Japanese crap really is better than American crap; just compare the contents of a dollar store to that of a hundred-yen store. Please, nightchrome, continue. posted by Faint of Butt at 7:48 PM on December 13, 2004
My introduction to the art of bunraku was through a phenomenal theatrical performance titled The Flood Drummers, where real human beings were costumed as puppets, manipulated by 3 pupppeteers in the banraku style.
Still can't get over how amazing the performance was - funny how quickly an audience can suspend disbelief despite being able to see all the "wires" :) posted by elphTeq at 8:27 PM on December 13, 2004
hey - thanks for the flood drummers reminder! an absolutely wonderful performance by the Theatre du Soleil.
would be very happy if they could do a similar performance, but i have some sneaking feeling that it might be a case of "well, that was a good idea and we were the first to do it (?) so let's do something totally different now, just to prove what great artistes we are..." posted by UbuRoivas at 8:52 PM on December 13, 2004
