One Terabyte?! I remember the good old days. Back when I was a kid and Gmail revolutionized communication by offering 1 gigabytes of storage to it's users. Well step aside, G. These crazy bikers are giving away 1000 GB accounts with a whopping 500 MB limit on attachments. And no ads?! Is this really possible? Think of the bandwidth.

Even if they accept 500 meg attachments, good luck getting that attachment sent out in the first place. As far as I know, most normal sendmail configurations have a 10 meg cap, and that's a generous estimate... It's probably more like 2 megs. And honestly, what the fuck do you need a terabyte of email storage for? SMTP and FTP are not the same thing, so you shouldn't use email to transfer large a file for the same reason you shouldn't use an FTP server to send people text messages.

Google has (about) a petabyte of storage, if memory serves. So, while it's possible, it's highly unlikely. I think they're banking on the fact that it would take a while to actually fill a TB of space, clearly underestimating the power of file traders.

okay, it works, now what? Easy. Post your email address, and the rest of us will flood you. When the email starts bouncing (or just failing to get stored), you've reached your limit. If, at that time, you have less than one terrabyte stored, it's a sham.

I ran a blog about spam. That is, up until recently when it became clear that I neither had the time to maintain it, nor the interest in tracking what was essentially the same concepts over and over. In said blog, I posted a few things about HRiders.com and their increasing storage levels. A few readers of my site posted up their opinions of the service, a few HRiders people said thanks, a few more opinions showed up - and then HRiders apparently had some people sort of put up a cease and desist on me. Other than the comedy involved there, it became clear to me that 1) there are many people that feel that site is a scam or a ripoff, and 2) HRiders is legit and they get really pissed off when people claim they are a scam. As far as I know, their service is totally legit - but I have read of people having issues with them a lot.

It's also starting to get annoying that people don't seem to understand that the appeal of gmail isn't just the space (although that certainly helps) it's that gmail's interface is one of the best web interfaces ever created for any purpose, and it's backed by google's steadfast reliability.

I am insulted by InnocentBystander's reference to me as "a friend" and demand he take it back or I won't let him move in in January. And it never finished attaching my insanely huge file, which was a complete copy of a movie. It's a shame, really.
