3d dun right... December 15, 2004 10:18 AM Subscribe
aNTROPUsis a 3d animator/modeler that makes some veryinterestingpictures. There was an animated short that caught my eye called, "The Plumber" ( it's in .rar format, if you don't have the software to view it, you can get it here (Mac) or here (PC) )

doh! I hit the post button instead of the preview button.
Anyway, I was going to finish up by saying
blah, blah, blah, something nice, something nice, blah, blah...yeah he kicks some major booty in 3d modeling. CYAKBYE! posted by Hands of Manos at 10:19 AM on December 15, 2004
The "interesting" link contains animcated nudity. posted by zelphi at 10:31 AM on December 15, 2004
Sort of... it's a machine.
Really amazing artwork. posted by ludwig_van at 10:36 AM on December 15, 2004
That's some awesome facial animation in "The Plumber." I'm glad to see he's getting Hollywood work now. posted by Faint of Butt at 10:41 AM on December 15, 2004
zelphi - ah CRAP! I'm so sorry!!! I hope I didn't get you in trouble at work!!! my bad! posted by Hands of Manos at 10:43 AM on December 15, 2004
That is cool.
[On little bit of a nit-pick, from the interview in your second link, isn't "Antropus" the nickname of a prominent CG artist--the Brazilian guy--and "ZBrush" the name of the actual program he's used to make this stuff?] posted by LairBob at 10:44 AM on December 15, 2004
Antropus is the Brazilian Guy...like I said, I hit "post" instead of preview or I would have finished that up...(hits head again...doh!)
zbrush is a 3d proggy he uses (one of many). I like that program myself, but it's hard as hell to use posted by Hands of Manos at 10:46 AM on December 15, 2004
Hands of Manos: i can't tell if you're being sarcastic, but I don't care about the nudity and think these animations are great. Thanks for the link! posted by zelphi at 10:46 AM on December 15, 2004
zelphi - being dead serious. I'd hate to get someone in trouble at work! posted by Hands of Manos at 10:48 AM on December 15, 2004
Check out his other works at CGTalk. In any case, how does a modeler come up with pictures?! posted by Gyan at 10:56 AM on December 15, 2004
Gyan = I've got a 1,000 running around in my head...but I'm still teaching myself Cinema 4d right now (my 3d modeler of choice). But I make pictures all the time in Adobe Illustrator. posted by Hands of Manos at 11:00 AM on December 15, 2004
Gyan, login required on that link.
What do you mean how does he come up with pictures? He renders them from his 3D app. posted by ludwig_van at 11:01 AM on December 15, 2004
Hands, hands. Thanks for the link. This looks like a pretty amazing modeler from those pics. But please let two or more people add a comment before chiming in again. Trust me on this. posted by soyjoy at 11:03 AM on December 15, 2004
Minor nitpick to an otherwise solid post: the way it's phrased makes it sound like aNTROPUS was a 3d modelling application. Should've been "aNTROPUS is a 3D animator/modeler who makes.." posted by signal at 11:05 AM on December 15, 2004
Hands: I wrote that before you cleared up what(?who?) antropus is. How does a modeler (as in modelling app) come up with pictures, as opposed to a rendering engine?
It seems his site has all his work, so never mind. posted by Gyan at 11:06 AM on December 15, 2004
Signal - yeah I know...I wish I'd not hit the "post" button and just the preview button (I wasn't finished putting my sentence structure together)...but, well....I won't next time ;)
Gyan - oh! oops. glad you found it. posted by Hands of Manos at 11:10 AM on December 15, 2004
Ah, I get it now. For those playing at home, please change my "This looks like" to "He looks like." posted by soyjoy at 11:15 AM on December 15, 2004
just FYI, stuffit expander (which most mac users have) opens .rar files fine. posted by neustile at 11:19 AM on December 15, 2004

I think it's worth mentioning that by clicking around on someone's profile, I ended up getting to a bunch of portfolios for illustrators and photographers who happen to be really good.
I just spent about an hour looking through them all. Impressive stuff. posted by icey at 12:27 PM on December 15, 2004
icey. they are impressive indeed and I've made it a point to not promote one of them for two reasons.
1. I'm self promoting my agency (which is an unwritten "no-no" at mefi)
2. I don't want to promote the SOB's and lose jobs to them (ha!)
but, all that said...yes there are some great folks there...Sashimi makes me want to eat my pencils posted by Hands of Manos at 12:35 PM on December 15, 2004
