Directions to purgatory are as follows. In the middle of the Mojave is a community of 3,000 people with no real laws or real houses. Its residents are dedicated to preserving the art of boondocking. Photos ranging from the sublime to the ridiculous here and here.

I had read about this place where the eldoerly (or at least the retired) go--restless, adventurous, trying to have fun and meet up with those they met up with previously--free lodging etc...The future: their kids will not have the social security income to slab it and will sit abouy brooding why they hadn't thought about voting for someone who cared...Slab City is a nice place to ship off the elders if they are not ready for old age homes--get them the heck out of the towns and cities and isolate them inthe desert!

Taken from article

1. They come to the Slabs because it is free and close to Mexico, where liquor and prescription medicine can be bought cheap

For #1 guess they don't qualify for social security so they have to go live near MEXICO, goddamn friggin poor Mexico to get their own drugs ? Forget about alcool, that's bad, they'd live better without abusing it ..but hell can't they afford to buy drugs in U.S. or what ? I heard the idea among administration is to get rid of Social Security for good ..how can that become worse I really dunno. Poor american dream.

Wait, elpapacito, your version of the American Dream doesn't end with wandering to the desert to die?

Hrmmmm. Maybe I got my concepts confused. I must have been working toward the Native American Dream. I guess now I have to start saving for retirement.
