Kiddie Records Weekly. In 2005, Basic Hip Digital Oddio will feature an entire year of albums from the golden age of kiddie records, lovingly transferred from the original 78s and encoded to 192kbps MP3 format. That's one a week for 52 weeks!

This sharity thing is getting too popular. Someone's going to take notice and figure they can sell this here eclectic ephemera if they reissue it. And of course the guy monetizing something can afford to buy more legal clout than the guy who's giving it away.

Frankly I'm amazed that people are still allowed to record and distribute their own music on the intarweb without buying a crypto certificate license thingy from Microsoft and that.

This is great. In fact, if they don't already have it, this is a great opportunity to digitize and share my prized "Captain Kangaroo Goes to the Dentist" picture disc 45.

I want "Peter Ponsil and his Tonsils."

It has been ... argh... 50 years since I last heard it.

And, it's not exactly music. More like a 12 minute commercial for ice cream!

"Originally released on a 78 RPM record and later on a 12 inch LP & 45 RPM Single, these became a must for all children who were facing the awesome experience of having their tonsils removed."

I found a dead link to http://www.pauly.com.au/peterponsil.htm

For the past few years, my 5-year-old has totally been loving the kiddie records from Basic Hip: Little Black Sambo, Whizzer the Airplane, etc. Now, we'll have great things to listen to all year long. It always surprised me how these records appeal to kid's today. There's something timeless about the classics... Thanks Basic Hip!
