Santa Saves Time and Money by simply skipping over the Blue States. SNL still somehow relevant. TV Funhouse still on the good side of that damn shark.

Still somehow relevant, but still not funny. I blame the likes of Family Guy and South Park for finding it hard to find shows like SNL or Simpsons funny anymore.

Why did they have to add the celebrities to the show? The ending sucked so fucking bad! Still, it was really funny for a minute.

SNL sucks nowadays.

Except for those uproarious Geico ads and Seinfeld re-runs, television is dead to me.

would have been a lot more funny with rumsfeld as the grinch.

And the Grinch with his grinch-heart two sizes too small,
Stood puzzling and puzzling: “How could it have gone so wrong?
“It came without armour! It came without a plan!
“It came without sufficient troop levels, allies, not at all like Afghanistan!”
And he puzzled three hours, till his puzzler was sore,
Then the Grinch thought of something he hadn’t before!
“Maybe Democracy,” he thought, “doesn’t come at the point of a gun.
“Maybe Democracy… perhaps… isn’t really that much fun!”

Why, oh why can't they bring the full-length "TV Funhouse" series back? Arguably the most side-splitting 30 minutes of TV ever created. The Anipals -- un-freaking-believable.

Best scene: when the cat was giving birth, and one of the babies turned out to be a puppy...and her cat husband started yelling at her, 'You filthy whore!" while the momma cat shrieked back, "You're never home!"

I found that a lot more gratingly preachy than funny.

"You're right, little girl--labels are wrong." (and then he stamps "NICE" on her forehead)

very good. and the Moby jokes were very funny. "I see you when you're sleeping"

"I told you to make those last"
Thanks for posting that wah, I was just looking for this yesterday. It seems the Funhouse animations are the only thing I look forward to on snl, aside from the lipsync backlash of their "musical" guests.

I didn't see the video you linked to, wah, because the site was hammered. But if it is the same as the SNL episode from last week, Santa skipped the red states...

Well, I missed that episode because SNL does truly suck these days. But Robert Smigel way outfunnies the rest of the writers by miles, and I did think this was funny. If blue state people can't laugh at themselves, then we're truly fucked.

Damn. There's another hour a week the TiVo will be sitting idle.

I think SNL is good lately, better than it's been in years.

It's incredible to me that a show that's been universally panned by everyone for decades seems to be watched by everyone, and is still on the air.

my favorite funhouse was "Titey: Disney's Historical Accurate Version of the Titanic" --I think I laughed for 24 hours straight.

Of course, I also thought that "I feel great" commercial was hilarious too.

but...I must agree, I've not hardly even giggled at most of SNL in the past 10 years. Celebrity Jeopardy was funny...but the rest of it...is (to me) stupid

Hmm, Michelle "All I want for Christmas is Internment Camps for Muslims" Malkin's response.
The bitter, twisted, unfunny skit on Saturday Night Live that's mentioned on the Drudge Report this morning can be viewed here. In addition to cruelly mocking Rush Limbaugh, the cartoon (titled "Blue Christmas") shows Santa and Rudolph skipping over the Red States (referred to on a map as Dumbf*ckistan), commiserating at a Chinese restaurant with Al Franken, Natalie Merchant, Moby, and Margaret Cho, and then taunting a little girl as a religious bigot for believing in God.

There's the liberal holiday spirit for you. Pathetic losers.

I always really liked the scene where the anipals go to Vegas and the cat coughs up a hairball on a rabbit while having sex with it, and then, flustered, blurts out "I always wanted to do that."

Or, when the lobsters buys another lobster from a restaurant, brings it home and has sex with it, and then covers it up with a sheet.

What a twisted, wonderful show.

"cruelly mocking Rush Limbaugh"?

That's supposed to be a BAD thing?

"dumbfuckistan" was hilarious. SNL never takes risks anymore, but that was funny and something even the Daily Show didn't do.

I thought the skit showed how stupid all this blue state/red state crap was.

I second the notion that the electral college leads to divisiness and snarkitude.

Wow, Malkin really didn't get it. They spent five minutes making fun of liberals, and 30 seconds making fun of Rush Limbaugh, and she somehow makes herself out to be the victim. Not that that surprises me: Her middle name should be Dumbfuckistan.

Hehe, figures.

Actually I keep getting them confused. 'tis a silly distinction, IMHO.

We're all kinda purple in the real world.

I watched it, and laughed by ass off. As mentioned, the Limbaugh gag was the best and the ending sucked.

I don't get why Natalie Merchant tho--i haven't seen or heard about her in ages. Why not Barbra (an obvious pick), Susan Sarandon, or even Bruce Springsteen or Bon Jovi?
posted by amberglow at 3:36 PM on December 22, 2004

I really expected the comment about it being the RED states that were skipped over to be first.
