Reed-Anderson man-and-wife has always created very disturbing mental images for me. Lord his hands are huge.

Love the VU, but this is one of my candidates for worst song of all time.

Damnitkage...are you freakin kidding? Transformer is an amazing album, as is New York. And I think his voice is unique and wonderful. I mean, if Bob Dylan can be a demigod with that gargage disposal voice he has (and I love Bob Dylan) why can't Lou Reed?

wobh, you've made my 2005, and we're only 4 days in.

Dylan's voice sucks too. Both wrote great arrangements but when your voice can't uphold the melody line, it kind of cheats the overall composition. I love listening to their songs but just hate it when I hear someone validate their shitty voices by suggesting I, or others, 'don't get it'. I get it..they suck as singers. Eh, whatever....I suppose it's an insult to their collective genius to suggest they were only great at writing songs and playin' that there guitar.

hate it when I hear someone validate their shitty voices by suggesting I, or others, 'don't get it

I don't think anyone here said anything about people 'not getting it'. If spot on vocals were a requirement for being a musician or singer/songwriter, we'd still be listening to opera. Holding a melody is not the be all end all of art and if it were there would be no folk, country or rock n roll. You gonna take away Muddy Waters guitar cuz he doesn't have perfect pitch? I don't think Hank Williams was all that spot on the pitch too often either. Shitty voices are basically the bed rock of popular, expressive music. What precisely are you being cheated out of when listening to say Jonathan Richman or Eddie Vedder or Alex Chilton or Bjork? If you don't like someone's voice that's fine, but I'd find life a little diminshed if Dylan were forced into the role of writer/arranger and I had to hear freakin Barbra Streisand sing all his work cuz she has perfect pitch. I mean, is that the world you want?

Transformer is an amazing album, as is New York.

And so is the underrated Magic and Loss and the semi-VU Songs for Drella. Lou Reed as a solo artist/Lou Reed in VU, I never saw a difference.

All this talk about Lou's singing...what's funny is that he's a frikkin' Pavarotti compared with his guitar playing.

True, and yet many of his songs overcome that by sheer force of his writing and attitude.

As much as I don't care for Dylan and Reed, I definitely have respect for someone writing music and performing it with at least a semblance of honesty. Even though that honesty probably doesn't exist, I'd rather at least be duped.

Besides, perfect music is boring music. I'd rather have something to bitch about.
