A friend of mine made a "wallet" (a folded pouch to hold money) out of $1 bills in the mid 80s sometime... The "strictly prohibited" part seems a little heavy handed on the part of the "artist".

my wallets are made out of those fedex/usps/&c. tyvek envelopes. the original idea I saw in readymade but those jokers wanted you to waste time sewing the damned thing together! so I ast myself, "self, what is the one thing that irreversibly bonds the hell out of tyvek?" and the answer, of course, is the adhesive strip that comes on those envelopes. so you just needs to be clever with the scissors/olfa knife/whatever and use the power of the adhesive bits. also, it's free.

Duc3 (et al) - I disagree, the instructions are very complicated, but very clear. I think that any MeFi reader could sit down with a stack of bills and an hour later come out with a money wallet. It's particularly amazing to me given that there is NO language in the instructions - you could use these worldwide without change. Amazingly comprehensive step-by-step directions. If the Ikea people could make their instructions this clear maybe I'd buy more of their stuff...
