In 2001, Kevin and Aimee set out on a 200-day, 48-state driving tour of the United States. These are their stories.

No nationwide roadtrip would be complete without a visit to the greatest highway attraction in the world. Outstanding.

My friends Cesar and Maud did this at the end of the last century, leaving Miami on January 1, 1999, and returning there on December 31, 50 states later, to be in the Orange Bowl parade. They also published a little newsletter on the road from each state, and mailed it to subscriber/supporters.(Cool photo —sideways, for some reason— of their car here.) After that, they too thought about doing Australia (in the same car), but ending up hiking the Appalachian Trail, to raise money for diabetes research.

Then Maud decided to sit down for a while, while on January 1, 2004, Cesar started walking around the world.

Hmph. I clicked on a few of the cities and states, and Kevin and Aimee have nothing good to say about any of them. Ohio, Michigan, West Virginia, South Carolina...all of these places are far too pedestrian for the oh-so-jaded couple. It's easy to write a few snarky journal entries poking fun at the generic stereotypes of certain places; they could've saved their gas and bandwidth for all the insight they've imparted.

I don't know, they seem more silly than jaded. Not everywhere in America is terribly interesting, especially if you drive such great distances. The seemed to like carhenge.

Hmph. I clicked on a few of the cities and states, and Kevin and Aimee have nothing good to say about any of them.

Their bests & worsts show they liked at least a few things. Baxter is definitely the best state park I've found; Arches one of my favorite national parks as well. And their favorite restaurant (on the other side of this island) also is a good choice.
