Beam me up, Scotty! They are one step closer to making the Holodeck a reality. Now I can really ditch the world and live in my very own bubble.

well... now that we've ended world hunger, closed down all the sweatshops and ensured that every human being is not without proper shelter, i guess we can proceed with building all the cool shit from star trek.

Using your argument why should we even bother building cool shit like fancy mountain bikes, over-priced hemp clothing, or anything else that doesn't relate to the-problem-of-the-week.

There are solutions to these problems, but stopping creative technological progress isn't one of them.

Looks like 5 projectors (one on top) and some type of treadmill...must be much more expensive then a cave.

It must have some good blending going on too.

If you goto slashdot.org you'll find this same article with a couple posts from people who actually used it and how it feels. I'll kill the suspense, it has problems.

Think of all the money the inventors of a real holodeck are going to make. What might they do with that money? Perhaps contribute some of it towards solving the world's problems? Without some economic base to generate lots of money, we're not going to be able to afford to solve all the world's problems! If we used all our efforts ensuring that every person was properly housed, clothed, fed, and medicated, we would fail miserably and end up without proper housing, clothing, food, and medicine ourselves.
