Yah, the prosaic day-to-day business of it is wierdly disconcerting. Intellectually that's what I'd expect, but still: it's wierd. "How many times do I have to tell you people to use the cell phone to reach sara?!?!" interspersed with bad feelings about dodgy clients in hotels and how to indicate when girls are at "that time of the month". It reminds me of a Joyce Carol Oates book. But like a zillion times less depressing.

Apropos of something, I happen to know from some research I did that licensed prostitutes in Nevada now do most of their marketing via email. (I corresponded with a few of them, and they didn't really seem to get the fact that I was researching, not shopping.) There are also several functioning discussion boards dedicated to "LPIN." This one may have died in '98, but it wasn't unique. There are plenty still around. Anyway, all irony aside, the internet has been an incredible boon to their business. They don't have to wait for some guy to happen across their middle-of-nowhere brothel anymore. FWIW. No pros/cons implied. (And before you jump on me for being a perveted john, please note that i'm a girl.)

Agency fees tend to be betwen 40 and 60% of the take (which is why most intelligent callgirls go independent or work in a small cooperative if security is a concern), but it sounds like - from what I've been able to piece together - they also had a bonus structure on top of it. What I'd wager that meant is a high agency fee on normal nights, sold to the girls because if they had a busy night - over $5000 - they got a lot more of the take. But on slow nights, at an agency like this that's obviously recruiting dumb girls who aren't even that attractive (and who may therefore be unable to negotiate better, fairer deals), they may only be making 25 or 30% of their total fee.

I kept wondering why the hell they kept giving calls to Kimber. They "fired" what? Five times or something? I think Sara must have been a pushover. Yah, the best part is how it's much the same mundane shit as running any small business and managing flaky people. What surprised me a little was the relative literacy of Frank, Sara, Stacy, and the rest. (By "relative" I mean compared to many people I've worked with, even.)
