He's fabulous and funny as hell; I have most of his books and even one of his CDs. This almost - well, kinda - makes me want to move to Texas so I ccould vote for him. Now, if only Hunter Thompson would run in Colorado, politics would start getting interesting again.

Crash, there's lots of Jews in Texas. Some of the first Texans were Jewish, diaspora-ed into Northern Mexico, South Texas, and New Mexico. Around 1900-1920 the ports of New York and Boston started turning away immigrant boats and a lot of them went to New Orleans and Galveston instead. Kinky's definitely one of the Great Texans, up there with Willie Nelson and Ann Richards. He has an amazing home for unwanted dogs and he supports causes he believes in with his time and money.

Kinky is an excellent candidate for Gov. In fact, he may be overqualified. And after all, you don't really need to be a political genius as the role is largely ceremonial. The Speaker of the Texas House sets the agenda. The fact W ran for president based on his experience as a governor still makes me chuckle.

I really hope he does run and takes it seriously. He might just be able to "Ventura" his way into the Governor's seat. I'm not sure who will be running for the Republicans (there will be probably be a power struggle, Rick Perry isn't very well liked) and the Democrats sure as hell won't run anybody worth a shit. So, why the hell not?

I'm sure it is naturally beautiful. And the hypocrisy is exactly what turns me off to the town. And while I'm sure there are plenty of nice people there, I sincerely doubt that any of the "working stiffs" can afford to actually live in outrageously expensive Aspen, especially the large number of undocumented Mexians doing housework for the movie stars and captains of industry. Conover's book goes into this in detail. The liberalism of convenience practiced in places like Aspen causes a lot of resentment in people, and it gives the far right a nice juicy target to make mockery of. Plus, I detest New Age crystal fondlers, and I'm not much for skiing. Just read Whiteout, you see what I'm talking about. Go Kinky!

Anyhow, one of my old college buddies who now lives in Austin is supposedly well involved in Kinky's campaign (or he said he was as of last April, when last I talked with him). Graned, the major thrust of him joining was just so he could smoke out with Willie, but he's a smart guy and can probably offer some kind of something to the Friedster.
