I don't know what's more disturbing

Maybe the paranoia this video will strike in a child, who will forever frustrate her parents as she checks her shoelaces, reads the safety sign, asks for interpretation, sings "We don't act silly whenever we ride," and grips the rail, white-knuckled, other hand squeezing the blood from her mother's finger.

I'll tell you what's disturbing! The rapidly declining escalator/elevator safety test scores of America's children:

1998: 98.0
1999: 95.2
2000: 9.31
2001: 9.23
2002: 9.22

MYTH: If an escalator is standing still, it is just a set of stairs.
TRUTH: Not at all! Escalator steps are not the correct height for normal walking and should not be used in that manner.

So I guess running down the "up" escalator isn't recommended then.

wonderful. truly an invaluable resource.

as an elementary school teacher in a-town-without-an-escalator, i view this information as invaluable to the development of my students. without proper escalator-safety training, how will my students, someday, shop successfully alongside their non-escalator-impaired cohorts.

i'm ordering the teachers guide and classroom kit today!
