Alcohol and the State of the Union. The most painless - or painful - way to get through the State of the Union address. I know, it was briefly discussed two years ago, but I thought we could all use a refresher. Hey, I clicked on that link and ended up playing the game. It was much more fun than undiluted politics. This one is harder, you have to wear costumes; and last years is a little better written, but just not as concise and to the point. Cheers!

Chicken Soup For me this year, but I empathize with you. Lo, those many years ago, I remember the disappearing six-pack of Pilsner Urquel during the post-impeachment Clinton SUA (and that was still when I could not imagine voting "R" in a Presidential election!)

During the State of the Union Address, a pale is cast over all of Park Slope, Brooklyn. The residents, in front of their TV sets sad, depressed, gaze in disbelief. There is heavy drinking. On President Street, and Garfield, even the dogs are sad. As the President speaks, in brownstone after brownstone, Labrador Retrievers and Poodles alike, sit on their hind quarters, look at the screen and howl.

Last night's Drunken State of the Union went off really well. It's a lot of fun to do this in a bar. I was not overzealous with the bell, though one of my friends was overzealous in his pre-State of the Union drinking and ended up, well, y'know. We had people of every stripe yelling things out, surprised patrons entering the bar and quite a few call-outs of "bullshit." And I got through another politicized evening without anyone knowing any better about where I am on the spectrum.

It's fun to read, but the problem with using it as an actual drinking game (as with most television-based drinking games) is that there's far too many rules to try to keep track of. The genius of Hi Bob is in having only a single rule.
