WE WENT TO IRAQ TO GIVE THE IRAQIS THE GIFT OF DEMOCRACY*
*Not valid in Sunni majority provinces. "Democracy" means the right to cast a ballot, not necessarily to know for whom you're voting. Democracy means the right to cast a ballot, not necessarily national sovereignty. Democracy means the right to cast a ballot, not to decide who owns your oil. Not valid with other offers, like voting for Islamic theocracy or a pro-Iranian government. Must retain fourteen permanent U.S. military bases to play. Voting will not restore lost parents or children, and will not remove the horror from your soul. Void where prohibited by Ken Blackwell, the USA Patriot Act, the Bybee Memo, Proconsul John Negroponte or any U.S. Soldier's whim.

Brought to you by sien and muckster.

This post was deleted for the following reason: no need for a new thread, is there?

100,000 dead civilians
15,000 injured US troops
1,400 dead US troops
Billions and billions of dollars

What for?

To double the size of Iran.

Brilliant. Fucking Brilliant.

Republicans officials make Jesus cry.

Wow, I had no idea about this Patriot Act. It sounds bad! Also, interesting points re: the war in Iraq. I had never considered that it might be a problematic situation.

Thanks, MetaFilter! Please post more news re: Iraq as it comes along!

The bait's not really being set properly without including the original "STFU LIB'RULS!"

So, you reposted your own comment in another thread about Iraq as FPP?

Whoa, crap. He did just repost a comment as a FPP. That's got be against the dictums of good taste, no?

So this is the 2005 Iraq Omnibus Metafilter Post, right? Sounds like you've got all the angles covered. Nice to get it out of the way all at once...

Steve_at_Linnwood grumps, " So, you reposted your own comment in another thread about Iraq as FPP?"

Yes, at the suggestion of two other Mefites (see links in post) and after adding the first ten completely new links which, more or less chronologically, trace the change in rhetorical justification for the Iraq war as the evidence for the original WMD justification was increasingly undermined.

But I do apologize that these links pretty much make this FPP seem a bit of a reach after all.

What does a Post that I made nearly two years ago have to do with you reposting your own comment as a FPP?

Is this the orthogonality highlight reel?

Nothing like good old fashioned pedantry to sidestep the points being made...

Points that were made just fine in this thread.

But hey, don't let me interrupt! I'm sure this thread will accomplish something different than all of the others.

It's a ploy to drive you into liberalism. How's it working?

How's it working?

Oh, it is working great! The never ending IraqFitler has made me change my whole world outlook, and realize just how evil and wrong this war was! I've already scheduled a sabbatical for next semester so I can go volunteer for Howard Dean!

Mean Mr. Bucket, is it really *just like* Daily Kos? Or are you flourishing a rhetorical silk handkerchief?
posted by kuatto at 2:27 PM on February 7, 2005

Gold.

Both the FPP and the first comment were pure gold.

dhoyt: "The bait's not really being set properly..."

Nah, it's working fine. Look at Steve over there, all tangled up. Somebody worked really hard on this trolling effort-- lots of links, witty text...

Seriously, though, it's not so bad. I don't mind posts like this. People have to have opinions about politics, I guess.

No, that was S@L finally waving a flag of surrender.

A thread about a thread about a thread.

Lots of angry confused, noisy and useless mouthpieces about, whereas life's golden thread is nowhere to be seen...

Heh. You first.

i dunno. file me in the camp that says reposting a comment as an FPP is a bad idea. and i don't buy the "but there were 10 new links up there" agruement.

also: it was possible that steve was arguing the structure of the post when he made his first comment...but he's a republician so lets automatically jump to conclusions.

But only if it agrees with the groupthink mentality of orthogonality, insomnia_lj, and all of the other shrill antiwar types in Metafilter, right?
