Um, ew. Was that supposed to be appealing? It reminds me of some of the public-access shows I used to see here in New York.

Also, this seems to be a repost, though the questions I have are not answered on that thread. Questions such as: who is this Harry Egipt character? And what language is that? Estonian? It could almost be Turkish or something. The type treatment reminds me of halva packaging.

Clue(?) about Harry Egipt: an August, 2004 article from SL Õhtuleht, which looks like an Estonian tabloid, entitled Reklaamiterrorist Harry Egipt päästis prügikastist tüki võluvat ajalugu. Estonian babes in bikinis, no extra charge. Maybe it (and not "he") is an ad agency. But I gotta wonder about the term "Reklaamiterrorist".

From the same paper: a great shot of a guy who I think is billed as an astrologer. From the look on his face, I bet he's portending doom of some kind.

Incidentally, what on the English version of google's home page is "Advertising Programs" is translated to "Reklaamprogramm" on the Estonian version. So I bet the term Reklaamiterrorist means someone who makes spoof advertising, like Adbusters.

On preview: yeah, check check it...

Okay, I think Harry Egipt has a face. He appears to be one person, not an ad agency. He's probaby a photographer/cinematographer. That's as far as I can get without knowing Estonian.

There are several mentions of him on Estonian web sites and blogs, but nowhere else, except for the ripples in the blogosphere around these video clips.

Interesting that all the blogosphere entries that I find mention Harry's name, perhaps expecting that others will know who he is. But nobody seems to know who he is. Except for in Estonia.

Lehva Lehva management seems to be Harry Egipt and Horre Saluste's company. They apparently provide some sort of (glamour)photography and different kinds of entertainers, like live music and dancegroups. The ads were directed by Harry Egipt in the 1980's when he worked for Eesti Reklaamfilm. As far as I can tell, the ads are real, but my understanding of Estonian is somewhat limited. He also, according to the Lehva Lehva site, has worked as a writer and a journalist.

Oh the irony... I studied Estonian for a year, but my internet connection is pretty poor and I can't download the mpg.

Actually, I find I'm too rusty to make much sense of the Õhtuleht article... though in the headline, Reklaam means advertising, I think prügikastist means "out of the rubbish bin" tüki means piece, and ajalugu is history. Oh, and kanahakkliha is minced chicken meat. I dread to think what the film is of...

Partial and not very useful translations R Us...

OK, back again, Harry Egipt lovers... with sincere apologies to all Estonians, this is a very rough summary of the biog on the Lehva Lehva page:

He's very experienced in TV and advertising: he's written radio advertising texts, TV broadcasts and videoclips. He was a (couple of things I don't understand), editor, and photographer.
He worked for 8 years at Estonian TV and 11 years at Estonian Advertising Films.
At Estonian Advertising Films he created more than 80 adverts. The Advertising Festival showed his films five years ago for the first time. His anti smoking advert won the Moscow Advertising Festival's three biggest prizes. The same advert was shown in 1992 at the Cannes Advertising Film Festival. Harry Egipt's retroadvertising films were also part of the "Advertising Nights" advertising festival.

And the last line contains the really good news: He continues and will continue to make adverts and photography.

No mention of minced chicken, though.
