Cabinet of Art and Medicine is a really neat collection of historical medical photography and related poetry. Compiler Mark Rowley has published an extensive bibliography of historical medical photography and in an easily missed section of his site offers his own poetic commentary on a few pictures. I found the whole thing rather moving. (medical nudity)

Quite a fascinating although disturbing site, thirteenkiller. There are some scary looking medical conditions portrayed - puts my relatively annoying day in perspective.

/ makes note to call doctor for annual appointment tomorrow.

Some of the images are quite striking in their own right - this one and plate 12 spring to mind, they almost look out of place amongst some of the other images.

Thanks for the link.

This is creepy but beautifully creepy. They look like a series of movie stills.

Fascinating and often quite unsettling. Great find -- thanks!

Wow. This is incredible stuff... I think what strikes me more than the photographs themselves in the hisotirical conext in which they were taken. One of the photos shows four of thirteen siblings in a family.

The photos are pretty amazing in their own right as well.
