I couldn't remember the name of that guy who does fruit and veggie art. No, not Kei Kosa, he's trippier than this fellow. Not Greg Brown (not to be confused with "mural Greg Brown" of Alien Saucer Crash and Buckethead Man with Paddleball fame) either, though Brown's cool too, sometimes whimsical, sometimes (woo!) suggestive. Fruits and vegetables have often been used suggestively, in advertising or even classics, maybe the innuendo of Joachim Beuckelaer's art such as Woman Selling Vegetables.
No, the guy I was thinking of takes into consideration the intrinsic character and personality of each piece he "sculpts." I remember! It's Saxton Freymann!
(...maybe influenced by the Thai fruit-n-veggie carving tradition?)

Freymann's vegetables are awesome, but how could you do a vegetable art post without including Arcimboldo? (Maybe because he strayed from the vegetables, sometimes using animals?) Thanks for the post.

Ooh, great work. This is my favorite Fraymann picture. I've never heard of Greg Brown. I love his picture of the bananas peeling one another with the perverted little cherry peering in on them.

Heh. I was scrolling down the page and got to the first two lines and knew it was yours, Shane, by the oh-so-helpful practice of putting unlinked letters in between linked ones to clue us in to multiple links for a given word or phrase. And by oh-so-helpful, I mean oh-so-very-helpful. You rock. Also, the post is great, but that kinda goes without saying. With my plant-based diet comes an unhealthy fixation on plant-based imagery.

Cool links, thanks. That Kei Kosa stuff is...interesting... Saxton Freeman has some amazing food sculpture, too. I must say, however, that although I can see the utility in separating the links by a letter its appearance hurts my brain; not that that's a reason to stop.
