The map of Madaba

The map of Madaba: The discovery in a sixth century church, and the publication of the mosaic Map of the biblical lands in 1896/7, brought Madaba, at the time a small dusty village in Jordan, to international fame.

I've been there. It's pretty cool. If you get the chance to see it first hand, I highly recommend it. Jordan has a ton of great ancient sites.

I've seen similar mosaics (usually just fragments) in Israel, but never managed to cross the border.
