Sympathy for the lost

What went wrong man? Your troubled but sympathetic face haunts me. Yet you seem like an intelligent guy. A little quirky maybe with those views on the Big Bang, Confucius vs Faith Daniels and walking barefoot to Boston [free registration may be required] but still very coherent. Did your parents set unobtainable expectations? Did you suffer a broken heart that never mended? Or was it just a chemical imbalance in the brain? Somehow you must have kept it under control with Melanie but something really pushed you over the edge with your craving for Anna.

Some excerpts from Will's profile at Kournikova.com :

Were you a fan of tennis before Anna?:
I told Melanie Brown to "mark my words" when I stated I was taking up tennis and would someday be a player on the tour. I had been telling her how frustrated I was with basketball which obliges you to rely on the whims of four teammates.

What's your favorite Anna moment so far?:
She dropped off three rackets for stringing at the club where I play. I took this as a sign that she might practice with me one of these days.

Some advice (for) Anna:
Drop any and all current boyfriends other than me. Then spend all -- or at least a lot of -- your time with me. BUT... don't even bother spending any time with me if you plan to flirt with other men.

Interesting guy; good writing; interesting post; nasty disorder. Poor Will... No other lover will have your intensity!

Whatever is troubling this guy cannot simply be a modern day malady, can it? I've often wondered how this kind of thing manifested itself in the similarly afflicted in days before mass media. Dirty letters to old Queen Vic?

If you have to loose your mind over a celebrity, Anna K is an excellent choice.

She is so attractive it is actually disturbing. I'm a bit concerned that Anna is going to be shown one day to be the result of a Russian gene refinement/manipulation experiment.

I've not read many interviews with her or heard or speak very often, so I have no idea if she has brains to match her beauty.

Although she has turned herself into quite a phenomenon even lacking stellar tennis skills. So at the very least she has good business sense.

I don't want to derail this thread with a discussion of how overrated I have always thought Anna was (I'm a tennis fan, an Anna fan not so much), and how much it disgusted me that the WTA was sexualizing and pimping out this underage girl in order to promote its product. As far as Anna herself goes (beauty is in the eye of the beholder), I can walk outside my office in Manhattan at lunch time and within 15 minutes spot a dozen or so women that are as or significantly more attractive then she.

Eh, psmealey, if you hadn't said it, I would have. I'm a straight woman, so whatever she's got isn't really pointed in my direction, but I don't think that she's terribly good looking. Don't get me wrong -- she's fine looking, but I just see a healthy, kind of ordinary looking girl.

Nice finds DirtyCreature. I'd read about the guy without realizing that much of his dark fantasy was self-published right on the web. Not that the phenomenon is a good thing, but I guess it gives the authorities a good psychological profile as they're connecting the dots. Dude should've just scrawled in his spiral notebook like old-skool stalkers.

You people are CRAZY! Anna is MY girlfriend!! This pathetic poseur didn't have a chance!! Why if I even SAW this loser try to approach her (I'm watching her right now with binoculars) he'd find out what PAIN is! Time cube!

Largely based on my efforts to try to understand Faith Daniels -- the former NBC TV TODAY show newscaster and TV talk show host -- I developed what I believe are accurate theories about Confucius and his life and activities... What I ultimately surmised is that Faith Daniels was engaging in multiple-orgasming, oftentimes doing so just minutes before appearing in front of the network broadcast cameras.

OK.

I don't get the big hubbub about Anna, either, but that's neither here nor there.

What made this interesting to me was reading through the crazy posts, and realizing that they were actually the products of a disturbed person. I've reached the point where whenever I read something crazy (not something I disagree with, something crazy, like the space vacuum big bang theory, or Faith Daniels multiple orgasms before appearing on TV), I just assume it's a joke. This post was a bit of a shock, realizing that some of the crazy sounding people on the internet are actual crazy people.

psmealy, I think you are unfairly docking her because of her overexposure, which I have to agree is extreme in every sense of the word. And forgive me if I doubt that you can find women at the rate of nearly one every 60 seconds that are "significantly more attractive" than her. I believe you've lapsed into hyperbole.

There's no accounting for taste or preference, but she is truly the embodiment of feminine attractiveness to me. The hair, the features, the legs (the legs man!). And to deny she is a supreme athletic physical specimen would simply be dishonest.

If she has a fault it is that she is too tall for my taste.

*shrug* I guess I just have it for those frumpy former soviet bloc babes. (Sidebar image appears to rotate, could be potentially NSFW).

And I'd love to see what Paul Ekman or FACS gurus make of his face.

Have you ever been to New York, ynoxas? I wasn't employing hyperbole at all!

I say that not to be insulting, btw. Anna has nice plain jane healthy girl looks, but she doesn't do anything for me. I just don't find anything about her distinctive enough to warrant the attention she gets. But those pro shots don't mean much to me. I worked in a photography studio for a while when I was in school. With the right lighting, appropriate clothes and makeup you can make (almost) anyone look like a supermodel.

sorry, /ot again.

Never knew the Anna fan boards were such a hotbed of philosophical musings and scientific fervor?

The universe runs on the force of a massive explosion. Quasars form as the expansion at the edge of the universe continues and the quasars form galaxies, stars, and planets as a result of the explosion and force created by the expanding universe. Much the same as a star dies when it runs out of energy, so will the universe. When the universe finally does run out of energy it will collapse upon itself, destroying everything created by it and returning to it's original place within a dimension where time and space do not exist.

And I've been hanging at MeFi this whole time! Who knew?

psmealey:

I appreciate what you're saying. She just rings my bell, what else can I say? And surely you have to admit she's in remarkable shape.

Over the years I've had to bear incredible criticism for my all-time favorite celebrity, Drew Barrymore. Most of my friends actively denigrate me for my taste in women so I'm used to it. But in all seriousness, it doesn't register with me how a straight male could look at Anna K and say "meh".

(Anna's still a fox... neener neener to you).

(I also have an admittedly irrational fear of NYC so I've not been, and don't know if I ever will. However, the possibility of seeing dozens of stunners per city block is certainly enticing.)

An odd thought i just ran through my head.
It's too bad this stalker demanded the exclusive possession of the object of his obsession. The optimum strategy would be one of cooperation. I bet that if he teamed up with a couple of other semi-resourceful stalkers, they could actually have won Anna. I'll bet Anna has at least a dozen dedicated stalkers. Maybe the necessary impetus would be an online community to facillitate cooperation and discovery of each other.
But that's another thread, or movie plot entirely...

I think the only thing that's disgusted me more than grown men lusting after a 16-year-old Anna is grown men lusting after a 14-year-old Maria Sharapova. I dunno about you, but for me (a serious tennis fan), the WTA's marketing angle has done more to turn me away from women's tennis than to it.

Sharapova's 17 now, BTW, but she was still the face of the year-ending championships last year in what a lot of people criticized as softcore ads.
