Optimus Prime Dies of Prostate Cancer "When it comes to prostate cancer, there's more than meets the eye," National Prostate Cancer Coalition CEO Richard N. Atkins, M.D. said. "Often times when one has symptoms for prostate cancer it's already in its late stages, that’s why early detection is so important."

The Robot Chicken episode with this cartoon was actually pretty funny. That it is, against all odds, being used to do some good is even funnier.

So that explains why Prime's been going to the bathroom so much lately.

I expected it to be the National guardsman that changed his name. Maybe I should get cable.

Voltron getting served in last night's episode was freaking brilliant. If you haven't seen Robot Chicken yet, you're missing one of the funniest shows out there.

"IT'S ON!!"

Good PR work from the NPCC to get out a funny press release like that in a timely fashion.

Not necessarily. I got the first two episodes from usenet.

Cancer, shmancer. Optimus Prime has died once before, and that didn't slow him down too much.

Robot Chicken is good stuff. Like acid but you don't have to be up all night.

I believe I will be finding the episodes and Tivo'ing them.

No kidding. Too few advocacy groups these days have a real sense of humor; too many would have taken this as a chance to decry the humorous treatment of a serious subject. Good for NPCC for using this as a chance to do some good.

Yeah, way to go NPCC. And the thing is, now I'm really concerned about my prostate. One in six? Jesus!

You should go see your doctor. They can do a digital exam now in almost any doctor's office.

heh, heh

I am not looking forward to getting tested for prostate cancer.

I pretty much have to; my dad has it.

The worst part is that one of his doctors noted an increase in the P.A. level, but forgot to say anything to him about it. Then he switched doctors, and now between the time elapsed, his weight problem, and the fact that his prostate is abnormally far back, it's inoperable.

Right now he's going in for radiation treatment. If it doesn't work, he could be dead by the end of the year. =\

As a child, I played with my cousin's Optimus Prime transformer. To hear that he died of prostate cancer is quite sad, definitely not the death that I expected or such a robot. Id have to say that it touches home though, funny as it may be.

Digital, you say? So they're all, like, miniaturized now? Man, that's a relief. Those old analog exams were so bulky and painful.

Did they make that cool Modem Dialup sound when they inserted it?

Though the analog tests did have a purer tone and fatter bass.

Does anyone know the episode name, in hopes that my homebrew tivo can catch a rerun? or *cough* a .torrent link =P

Was anyone else confused as I was, when in Boogie Nights they had Mark Walberg singing the Transformers The Movie "You've Got the Touch" song? That's quite the cross-over =P

*shrug*

wfrgms: I'd tend to agree with you. I've only seen one episode (last night's), and I was seriously disappointed. I had high hopes, but the writing was just flat. That damn "Voltron gets served" bit went on forever.

The first episode was really good. Last night's episode kinda sucked.

Super Milk Chan sucks forever.

Don't be too sure. If the doctor has one hand on your shoulder, it is, but not if he has both hands on your shoulders.

Great! Now cartoons are promoting unproven, money consuming tests. What next? Marge Simpson getting a CA125 for ovarian cancer?

I think Robot Chicken would be ok, if we weren't already supersaturated with animated shows whose stock in trade is debasing and riffing on "obscure" bits of 80s pop culture, and turning them into cheap jokes about sex and drugs.

We already have VH1 for that sort of thing. That whole concept is just played out as far as I'm concerned.

Also, I feel obligated to point out that the picture in the article is from Prime's death scene in Transformers: The Movie, not Robot Chicken.
