Not sure how well this will work, but I'm willing to give it a shot. The what is Head Butler page promises a lot.

'Jack of all trades, master of none' comes to mind here, since I have sites that do an excellent job prioritizing my media in each specific category (music, movies, books, etc.). It basically looks like a guy is starting a spiffy blog to share his opinion on 'good' stuff...not exactly a new idea. I'm not trying to be snarky, but a glance at each page reads like a "My Recent Favorite Movie/Album/Etc." list from someone's blog.

It's still early though, so who knows? Maybe this will be the new media sorting juggernaut of the world wide web. Until then, you'll find me at Pitchfork/AMG/PopMatters, Rotten Tomatoes/Mr. Filthy, hell...even Amazon's recommendations can be pretty good. But thanks for the heads up braun_richard.

Not to mention metacritic.

Also, he doesn't publish an RSS feed, which makes it less useful to me.

Head Butler is a full-service concierge. At your request (and for an appropriate fee), he will suggest books, music and DVDs for gifts, create a library or collection, and lecture on a variety of topics.

Super! There's a real shortage of recommendation engines on the web, you know. Having Metacritic, Amazon, Netflix, Last.fm, Musicplasma, Upto11, AskMe and others at my fingertips simply isn't enough.

You've got to admire someone though that has the audacity to request payment for their sharing their opinions.

If everyone sends me a fiver, I'll let you know what I think about the state of the NHL lockout.

Hey! Who do you think you are? Kottke?

Is this like a wine waiter, but for more adult pleasures? "Butler: more head".

Um... Ask Jeeves lawsuit on the way? Hello?

Also, he doesn't publish an RSS feed

Unless you can turn his e-mail subscription into an RSS feed, but that's a matter for AskMe.

I dont know...I find it kind of cute and hopeful in that early Web kind of way.

If its the Jesse Kornbluth I think it is, he's a respected journalist who's been around a while (I'd say he's probably around 60 yrs old or so) and so his opinions do carry a bit more weight than your average blogger. Its more like Gladwell putting up his own content site.

But yeah, how dare he not understand that we dont need him because we have metacritic. Him and his naive hopefulness should just go away. /sarcasm

Yup, it's the same Jesse Kornbluth.

Jesse blogs as Swami Uptown on BeliefNet. IMO it's better than the butler.

Not sure about a home URL, but start at the newest post here.
