So if I understand this correctly, some geeks play an online game feverishly, and the developers reward this by letting Darth Vader pay them a visit. This must be the geekiest thing I've ever seen. Some are actually in awe. posted by swordfishtrombones at 7:06 PM on March 8, 2005

it's stuff like this that makes me reluctant to publically admit i'm a star wars fan.

no no it should only make you reluctant to admit that you play MMORPG's, and have you seen this triump sketch
On the other hand those storm troopers look really *into* their online marching and drills... must be the masks. posted by stratastar at 9:26 PM on March 8, 2005

I saw "Vader Boosts Morale" and figured, "Well, this is Metafilter. Probably a snarky article about Rumsfeld's last visit to Iraq." Imagine my surprise when I clicked the link. posted by Clay201 at 10:28 PM on March 8, 2005
Amazingly, my first thoughts were very similar, Clay201. I quickly realized it wasn't along those lines when it only showed up as having one comment. I'm sure if it had been political in origin with that headline it would have already had 60 by then. posted by Stunt at 12:34 AM on March 9, 2005
Had I been one of the stormtroopers, I would have been in awe too. I don't play MMOGs much but SWG is next on my gaming to-do list. I think it's kind of cool when developers take a strong interest in what is going on in their game world and choose to interact: game development of a very different sort. posted by nthdegx at 3:42 AM on March 9, 2005
Holy shit! That is awesome!
If by geeky you mean sweet, then this thing is the geekiest geekiness that ever geeked. posted by schroedinger at 5:17 AM on March 9, 2005
That was way cool. I don't play that particular MMORPG, but that almost makes me want to try it. Now if only we could get Vader to come boost morale in the Under City or Orgrimmar... posted by MsVader at 5:38 AM on March 9, 2005
