What do Charles Krauthammer, Harry Lime and Sideshow Bob have in common? Discover The Nutwork

y2karl, did you say mediated or medicated?

I personally object to the inclusion of Muttley in this group; from his consistantly disrespectful treatment of Dick Dastardly, occasional sabotaging of his dastardly schemes (on those occasions when he showed some chance of success) and his impressive skill in getting a safe distance away from most of Dastardly's disasters, I've always considered him a probable Double Agent for the forces of goodness and niceness. But then again, it was a Hanna Barbera cartoon, making all attempts to search for logic moot.

I understand the reductio ad absurdum, but I still miss the opportunity for further textual ridicule.

Wendell,

In college, Muttley was president of the College Republicans and wrote a lot of articles for the student paper about "this school's affirmative action problem" and put signs up next to a lot of planned parenthood clinics. If he's a double agent, he should win a damned Oscar for it.

Only one link?

Yeah, what gives? I might be way out of the neocon loop or something, but I'd never seen DiscoverTheNetwork.org, the Horowitz & Co. omnibus site this thing's parodying. Which is a fascinating read, by the way, particularly for its truly astonishing ability to sustain such an intoxicating level of hysterical bluster and glib oversimplification through so many profiles.

Choice nuggets leap off every page:

One of the early catalysts of [Cornel] West's rise into the cultural stratosphere was his plea for racial harmony. As a Marxist black radical he was almost unique in saying that it was not appropriate for other black militants to hate all whites and Jews.

Most of [Noam Chomsky's] "books" are pamphlets in disguise, collections of speeches, or interviews strung together, as in the case of the best selling 9-11, which was assembled by email with the assistance of his acolytes.

Bruce Springsteen himself has been fed Chomskyite views of the world by his longtime friend Van Zandt.

So if I've got this straight, Bruce Springsteen and Little Steven are spearheading a movement to fool buyers of legitimate books into purchasing pamphlets containing random snippets of Chomskyite rhetoric, which has resulted in the horrifically topsy-turvy America of today, where black Marxist intellectuals like Cornel West occupy the cultural stratosphere. Which finally explains why last week's issue of In Touch had that story about the Cornel West-Henry Louis Gates-bell hooks lover's triangle on the cover.

Um, but Horowitz's site categories (damns?) those profiles into (completely subjective) pigeon-holes, and gives the impression that there's a continuum of political thought from Islamic terrorist Mohammed Atta to actor George Clooney.

The parody site only lists persons alphabetically. Which really misses out, as it would be much funnier if one could pretend there's some continuum of ideology from Donald Trump to Bill Buckley to Ann Coulter to Donald Duck.
