Won't play for me! What codec is it?

I didn't get into that college because I got 2% less than I needed on my Maths A-level. Thank fuck for that; they're all clearly insane.

Phatboy, DivX will play it.

That was really well done!
posted by grimcity at 4:46 PM on March 11, 2005

It's DivX. If you can't play DivX, sort yourself out.

Doh, no divx on the work machine. I'll check when I get home.

That kicked ass.

Extreme bonus points for the dart board (almost a bullseye) and the fire.

This avi crashed Safari

I did the following:
1. Right-click. Save file.
2. Open with VLC

You keep telling yourself that. They seem like they are having a lot of fun.

Yeah, way to go, PG. You tell 'em what's what! Who does that guy think he is, living in fucking 2005 without having a DivX codec of all things? Sheesh!

Excellent -- reminded me of my own failed attempts at Rube Goldbergesque innovation and also this Honda commerical.

Hahah, that was fantastic! The kicker is the credits, obviously these people are concerned with their internet legacy.

No problems with mplayer here.

paultron, nicely put. WTF is Divx?
posted by fenriq at 10:18 PM on March 11, 2005

fenriq: Divx is a video compression codec that is quite popular on the net for porn and Rube Goldberg devices, among other movie type things.

Not to be confused with Xvid (another useful codec) or (yuck) Divx.

This is a good site for hunting down codecs.

Hope this helps.

The solution of the Rubik's cube en route is a particularly nice touch.

Part of this thread is inspiring in me a desire for some Rubik's Cube porn.

Ahh, there we go... Who's a dirty little monkey? You are!

Divx 4 with MPEG-1 Layer 2 audio, 1/4 the file is audio.

That's really pretty fantastic.. I tried to do some stuff like this when a wee lad, and it never worked.
