Heehee. Even regular hand-held cellphones in Japan have unsilencable shutter sounds for their cameras to avoid being used for upshot photography, so I blame the Ericsson side of the equation.

My own personal robot. Baby_Balrog, I'm down with a CatCam, or whatever... A camera with some kind of universal adapter at the bottom so you could strap, stick, or whatever it to anything would be awesome. It would have infinite uses - security, pornography, investigation, cat toy, catblogging, etc.

That is an amazing piece of kit. Linux, Bluetooth. The possibilities are huge. You could have some serious computation sitting analysing the images. You have to wonder when these sorts of things will become commonplace. It is also a big deal that Sony are making it. It seems like Sony really have a bit of vision on this. Maybe not this robot, but maybe 10 years in the future. If it's programmable you could make a patrolling security droid with it or something to wander around nursing homes at night checking that people were OK. Military variations with tracks will also have a huge impact. This feels like gopher in 1990.....

Cheez, what do you have to *do* for an FPP around here? Write the Great American Novel (in one paragraph)? I don't much care for link-farm FPP's anyway; somehow it usually seems that the attempt at completeness implies a lowering of standards. Chrismear, this is a perfectly reasonable post. It's cool, it's of interest to lots of different (kinds of) people, and most importantly, I hadn't seen it before. Bravo!

Of course it's a woman being 'approached' by the thing and a guy operating it. Hmmm, X-Ray glasses for kids in the 50's and upskirt cams for over-age kids now. If this keeps up I predict the complete elimination of the skirt from normal use within 3 years. Any woman wearing a skirt will be judged to be 'just asking for it'. Of course she wants her crotch photographed, she's wearing a skirt isn't she?

And while I'm only roughly 1/128th Irish, and not Scottish in the least (to my knowledge), I see no reason to stop wearing my Utilikilts. Heritage or no, they're _damn_ comfortable, and snazzy to boot (imho). </ derail>

The movie might be Runaway, and if you are thinking Kilt, like most people think Kilt, it was actually first made by a fellow from Lancashire (England)... "A letter published in the Scots Journal in March 1785 argued that the garment people would today recognize as a kilt was invented around the 1720s by Thomas Rawlinson, a Quaker from Lancashire. Rawlinson is claimed to have designed it for the Highlanders who worked in his new charcoal production facility in the woods of northern Scotland. After the Jacobite campaign of 1715 the government was "opening" the Highlands to outside exploitation and Rawlinson was one of the businessmen who took advantage of the situation. He thought that the traditional Highland kilt, the "belted plaid" which consisted of a large cloak, was inconvenient for tree cutters and introduced the new kilt. Rawlinson liked the new creation so much that he began to wear it as well and was soon imitated by his Scottish colleagues, the MacDonell's of Glengarry." There where other types of kilts before this inculding the Great Kilt.
