it was just you. that was a really cool video, they are finally making CG look almost real in real world video. nothing beats Aphex Twin - Come to Daddy though.

Nice video, but I thought the track was really bad. "I need you to believe in somethin'" is way too prosodic with the minimal beats. The Chemical Brothers have been off their game since "Surrender".

As a Flash developer, please do us all a favour. When you link to a Flash movie, please link to the containing html page, not the swf file. If you link directly to the swf, then it is stretched to the browser width/height and ends up looking terrible. I thought the song was nice, but the video a little predictable. Not to totally hijack this discussion, but I have to say that Come to Daddy is the most poppy, MTV-ish piece of work that has ever come from the piece of work that is Richard D. James. The most moving tracks are the ones which have the organic, beautifully-strange textures. Bucephalus Bouncing Ball, for example, or something from I Care Because You Do.

Doesn't play nice with my Mozilla. Stuck in an endless loop of fury between Mozilla, Media Player Classic, and J River Media Center. Blergh. As an aside, a friend of mine was on the list for the Chems in the Point in Dublin recently. He: "I got there late. They weren't very good and the place was full of people mad out of it". Me: "And you expected something different? Was the after party better?" He: "No, they were crap there as well". This guy is one of the most hardcore ravers I know. I think they need a new groove. I saw them around 10 years ago (still the Dust Brothers then) in an dingy club called "The Furnace" in Dublin and to be honest, despite enlarging their crowd size and light wattage a couple orders of magnitude, they seem to be stuck in some kind of steady-state stage act. Still nice tunes though.

Well done, jeremias! I recently got snotted all over and then deleted when I posted a single-link FPP to a music video by a band very much in the same genre as the Chemical Bros., only not as famous (which is why I thought people might like to see it). And the song was better. Not that I don't like the Chemicals (love 'em in fact). Just sayin'.

Weird - I just watched it a second time because everyone was rating it, but I still think it's rubbish - there's no synergy between the music and the video. And the track is dull. For what it's worth, my favorite Aphex track is Polynomial-C, which can be found on the Xylem Tube EP, as well as The Orb's Back To Mine, and the 5th R&S compilation, In Order To Dance

This guy is one of the most hardcore ravers I know. I think they need a new groove. They've always been a bit hit or miss. I've seen some pretty blah live and DJ sets from them. Then again I've also seen some real crackers - they did a DJ set in Fabric in 2000 that pooled all their floor fillers together with the shining moments from their Brothers Gonna Work It Out mix album (their remix of Don't Stop the Rock being a particularly spine-tingling moment) - and last year's Glastonbury performance was a work of sheer genius - see my little video clip of the fun here (in the Friday column - sorry for the self-link, but it's relevant).

I still remember being in the Sun and 13 Cantons in 19mumble-mumble when one of our number disappeared to the loo to reappear about an hour later... "Where the fuck have you been?" the assembled demanded? "Oh, the Chemical Brothers were downstairs doing a set. I stayed to watch." Much hilarity (and the death of one) followed.

Total derail warning: Star Guitar is the only video I know that truly tries to equate the audio with the visual, and it does it in a fantastic way imho. Anyone got links to similar stuff? My wife bought the Gondry video collection DVD, and this video was a standout to me, along with Let Forever Be and Come Into My World with Kylie Minogue (shocking but true). The guy's got a great imagination for this kind of work.

lowlife: Yeah - I mean, there's been stuff which has used various audio meter displays in the video (Gondry's own "Fell In Love With A Girl" for the White Stripes comes to mind, and now thinking about it, his "Hardest Button To Button" for the Stripes used some live-action stop-motion (!) animation using the band and their equipment in time with the music), but "Star Guitar" is just so subtley done I adore it... Music videos that are short films are good. Slow-mo singing and bands in their own videos are bad.
