Nick is a good friend of mine. Just spoke to him on the phone. Downtown DC has wireless all over, for free, so there are apparently a ton of people in line with laptops there. He just took off to get interviewed. This seems like one of those great examples where news will hit the blogosphere faster than even the network outlets can get it.

This seems like one of those great examples where news will hit the blogosphere faster than even the network outlets can get it. Might also be a great example of why this seems to happen most often with news the network outlets don't care about.

Hmm, there seems to be a lot of attention in the media given that this is just oral argument and there won't be a decision for months. I don't want to derail with yet another comparison of "I don't think the media is paying enough attention to story X" that we get all the time here (see the school shooting story).

I just returned from the Court. There were already well over 50 people there at 12:20 am. Based on my experience at Eldred (self link) and the 10 Commandments cases among others, I decided not to stick around only to be turned away in the morning. I would be far beyond shocked if more than 50 people from the line get in. As Nick said on his page, it's a great environment though. I'm sorry to miss it. I did leave a plate of fresh-baked cookies for the folks staying.

actually, those pictures are teh funny. in my time, i've seen people massed on the supreme court steps to protest the legality of the vietnam war, the nixon tapes dispute, the abortion decisions, and numerous civil rights issues. "Save Betamax" and "Keep your hands off my iPod" just seem to be scraping the bottom of the, uh, shallowsphere.
