i love this: ASK JEFF GANNON A QUESTION -- $200 PER HOUR! lots of good ones there--it's appalling that they invited him as a journalist like them, and also that no one involved in the story's exposure is on the panel. how about: WHich Ones are the Real whorES here? or: Guckert & NPC: Who gets to be the Top? or: Oh, Are You Guys Sleeping With Rove Too? (or With Mehlman Too?) (or With McClellan Too?)

It's all about getting press for the Press Club, isn't it? From the original Editor & Publisher article: Dunham said "journalists should be given a chance to question him." Reminded that many reporters had interviewed Gannon in the past month, Dunham still believed his presence would be good for the event. "I want us to be on the news," he said. "I think it is better to have people ask any question they can ask." The Press Club's Web site, however, does not tout the event as focusing on Gannon but rather as a discussion about the differences between "bloggers" and "journalists." In other words, it is a journalism panel, not a press conference featuring, say, a politician or author in the news... Dunham hopes to have the panel covered by C-SPAN, but said no final decision by the cable channel had been made. God, what a perfectly transparent hoot. Would anyone bother at all with the Press Club's event if Gannon *wasn't* there? Of course not. But the group can't admit that it's invited him simply to increase the chance of getting press coverage. So it insults anyone with half a brain - journalist, blogger and everyone in between - by pretending there really isn't a white elephant in the room. Meanwhile, Romenesko links an AJR article pointing to the Washington Post's "sharp circulation losses." No, these two stories aren't related at all. Not at all.
