Pat Sajak has always struck me as an Alex Trebek lite but he's got a cooler name. And, back in the day, when Vanna was hot, he at least had some eye candy where Alex has to pretend to give a damn about some contestant's brush with fame when they shared a cab with Charles Bronson fifteen years ago.

But it sure is nice to know that he's not above some liberal bashing (You know, you can always tell a liberal, you just can't tell him much). Bleh.

Does anyone know if Pat is a Log Cabin republican?

I like to read bios from people who espouse all the moral virtues of today's rightist parties, yet make no mention of the centerpiece of their public agenda: the family. Is he married? Does he have kids? Is there anyhting else on his website except for info about him?

Ok, so Pat says that arguing with Liberals is like arguing with his parents, that's a family mention, but then again, competing on Wheel is like competing in the Special Olympics. if you know what I mean.

And I'm sure glad he's done arguing with Liberals. Must be tiring. Just lock them up, or shout them down. Damn hippies and their "facts".

I have to admit that I laughed at the liberal-bashing page. His anecdotes are pretty awesome in the entire "liberals use hate speech! liberals are racist! omg, hypocrisy!" way. But it's also pretty funny that Pat Sajak can present himself as someone in the entertainment industry (and I could stop there!) who's surrounded by "liberals" who just happen to meet his definition of "stupid liberals." I mean, I'm pretty sure there are some idiot republicans out there, and some smart left-wingers, but they're probably keeping their mouths shut. While Pat talks so very much.

Most liberals don't like other liberals. They attack each other with rare venom on fine points of personal orthodoxy, and then the conservatives mop the floor with them because they can't work together. You should have seen the reaction of the canvasser from the Human Rights Campaign when I explained to him why I don't support hate speech legislation. (I am, BTW, a paid-up member of ACLU, AI, EFF, Sierra Club, etc.) The loathing he focused on me probably far surpassed anything he'd ever subject a conservative to.

I took a test that said that I'm a "left-leaning libertarian," but I'm not terrifically fond of completely unfettered free-markets.

I agree with most liberal policies, I just generally don't like hanging out with liberals. They tend to be either shrilly self-righteous or raptly naive. They also tend to have terrible taste in music and food, like to politicize absolutely everything and won't mind their own business.

Conseravtives have all these faults plus a few of their own, too, but that's a whole other discussion.

And Wheel Of Fortune serves one function, it makes you feel smart after Jeopardy makes you feel stupid.

<i>Is he married? Does he have kids? Is there anyhting else on his website except for info about him?</i>

It says on the bio page that he's married with a couple kids. I thought he married a Playmate.

I know we're supposed to make fun of the guy, because he's a game show host and his politics are different from the prevailing politics here, but the couple articles I looked at were surprisingly well-argued and written. Far superior to most blog posts that might be cited around here. Maybe he has a ghost-writer.

<i>And Wheel Of Fortune serves one function, it makes you feel smart after Jeopardy makes you feel stupid.</i>

I always thought Jeopardy was supposed to make you feel smart when you're not especially brilliant. Being as most of the questions measure recall of general knowledge and the greatest hits from selected specialty topics.

jonmc, funny Wheel makes me feel like my brain is being drained of power after a charge from watching Jeopardy (now that Ken Jennings is gone, how could such a geek make me feel soooo small?).

Wheel is like naptime.

and disgruntled, come on now, you know you want to have a super big wackalicious flameout that results in a few hundred comments in a strange MeTa thread that turns into a slag fest that turns into a nostalgia fest that turns into people showing how cool they are by coding neat comments that do stuff.
Not much has been written about this, but for a couple of years in the late 1920's, Adolph Hitler worked as the Master of Ceremonies at a Berlin cabaret that had an innovative show. In a sort of Dadaist confrontational piece, random members of the audience were called up and asked obscure trivia questions. If they answered correctly, they were awarded big "prizes" which were, of course, meaningless due to the runaway post-war inflation. The original German name, which I've forgotten, translated to "Who Wants to Win a Wheelbarrow Full of Deutschmarks?"

Hitler's future as a skilled manipulator of crowds was, in retrospect, quite evident. He was known for the ease with which he conversed with the audience members, kept the show moving at a good clip, built up dramatic tension, and created excitement around the patently ridiculous "prizes."

So, in short: Pat Sajack is worse than Hitler.

I love the outrageous claims that conservatives make about liberals. "Libruls want to kill Terri Schiavo!" "Libruls want to ban the constitution!" "Libruls want to kill all Christians!"

On a side note, did anyone else see the piece in this week's New Yorker on Antonin Scalia? It made me see him as a human, instead of just a fascist asshole. Now, while I still disagree with him on almost everything, I can at least see where he's coming from. Damn you, New Yorker, for broadening my views towards conservatives!

<i> And as far as not liking liberals: I am a liberal and I don't like most liberals.</i>

What the fuck does this mean? Honestly, I can't stand all this "liberal bashing". As far as I can tell, "Liberal" just means you disagree with the "conservatives", who all either love bush or hate Clinton. I mean, what the fuck? You don't like most people who don't like bush? Is that what you're saying?

Blah, fuck you. All your doing with this BS is playing right into conservative hands.

<em>has Pat Sajak ever been cool enough to have Sean Connery consider him an evil arch-nemesis?</em>

Suck it, Trebek! ;-)

<em>What the fuck does this mean?</em>

That I find a large percentage of people who are self-described and vocal liberals to be annoying and unpleasant company, for the reasons i gave in my <a href="http://www.metafilter.com/mefi/40828#891780">earlier comment</a>. And like I said there, it's not like I'm hanging out at some right-wing salon either, just that I don't feel comfortable, welcome or pleasant around the aforementioned "liberal," crowd.

Screw it. I'm just calling myself "Hero or Fool" and my political leanings are "Heroic or Foolish", and it's a journey of the individual bringing something back for the community.
