Autechre Radio - Sounds like Autechre will be doing a radio broadcast of experimental sound on Sunday, April 10th from 3 PM EST until late. The feed already connects to some really weird stuff. Stay tuned, should be fun!

Will it actually be listenable this time around? Or just more of the same randomly generated noise bursts they've been pooping out since "LP5"?

hurrah! thanks for pointing this out.

the sounds they have on right now are actually quite pleasant and listenable drones.

*hugs copy of amber, smiles, goes back to work*

My take on Untilted. Basically, it is a dense work, hardly random but certainly complex.

I haven't heard Untitled yet, but if it's anything like the disaster that was Draft, I'm not interested.. Confield and Tri-Repetae++ are my favorite Ae releases.

I hated confield, and the reviews of Untilted so far haven't filled me with confidence. Almost everything else they've produced takes me 3 listens to appreciate and 5 or 6 to adore, but confield has had 3 years of my life.
... I probably don't have any legal recourse for that ...
still, the continued referencing of confield as the new sound touchstone makes me very wary of things to come.

I'll go and write a review of Tri Repetae if you want, Alex. Or was this not supposed to be a smug battle of hyperbole?

You could throw a single pressing of the Autechre back-catalogue into a crowd and everyone would take home their favourite album.

Of course, the crowd would have to be made up of townie electrophile hipster wankers like us.
[makes the sign of the sarcasm]

Kids, let's forget the smug battles of hyperbole (he said, mumbling something about "Tri Repetae" representing Ae at their finest) ... what do all those song titles mean?

Incunabula, Tri Repetae++ and Amber are all classics.

Noise wankery != music. They're trying to resell the emperor's 'new' clothes.

Not to me baby... not anymore! (says the owner of a complete catalog of noise wankery)

Thanks AlexReynolds! (oh, and I ? Tri Repetae++ too!)

you can listen to a stream of the new album here if you're curious...

I was all worried about rigging up some nightmare software to rip the stream when I realized it's just a simple mp3 stream. At least for their test broadcast, a simple wget http://autechre.ws:80/aetest yields a working mp3 file.

After listening to that (once) I now know that I am in no danger of being labeled a "hipster".

What do you bet that it is a sociology experiment to see how long people will stay connected listening to stuff other people say is cool?

i always thought "dael" referred to those robots from Dr. Who... they should add that to the 'meanings of autechre song names' list. the very existence of such a list is pretty funny. i always thought they just banged on the keyboard. fasdhoiu 2 = next autechre hit!

dude i hate autechre!
dude i love autechre!

dude what's autechre?

I haven't liked recent autechre much (anything since lp5 really) but oddly enough what I've heard so far of untilted from stokast's link is sounding like a better direction to me than confield or draft...pro radii and fermium are almost likeable.

p.s. my favorite autechre release is tri repetae++, but chiclisuite is close just because they use that cool stuttering-ratcheting-creaking sound on basically every song.

Well, I just have to say that all the people that complain about newer AE (I keep hearing "Since LP5" all over the place) can just go listen to their old CDs. Autechre continues to break new ground and thankfully don't seem to give a rat's ass about what people think and definitely could care less about nostalgic jabber about how the only good AE is the old, mild AE.

I know I'm in the minority but I like the direction Autechre has been going in since day one and the latest stuff just keeps getting better. Some people like sound, regardless of whether random anonymous posters on the internets considers it music, good, bad, racket, the shit crapped out from last night's Thai food, hip or unhip.

had some more time with the new album and I have to say, it's definitely superior to anything else they've done since lp5. I'm actually starting to like this one.
