Trinken Pabst!

[My German's not too great, but I think I understand this site enough. And they teach y'all doggerel melodies! Because nothing sounds so good as when it's sung in German.]
Fun for those who speak German, and for those who can fake it. (I found this helpful for words I didn't know).

OK, can someone tell me what the German folk song backing track to Gunther the German is?

Thank you, slater. I am even more enlightened by the essay on the tune's geneology from that page...

It looks like the site is just for sacrilegious music.

It leaves out such classics as Mozart's 1785 O du eselhafter Martin (KV 560b).
O leck mich doch geschwind,
geschwind im Arsch.
O lieber freund, verzeihe mir,
den Arsch, den Arsch petschier ich dir,
Martin, Martin, verzeihe mir!"
?
"Oh Martin who looks like a donkey,
Oh donkey who looks like Martin
You are as lazy as a sick horse
who has head nor knuckles.
With no reason for anyone to pick up.
Oh, you idiot Paul, shut up,
I shit you on your mouth,
So I hope you won't wake up.
Oh dear Martin, I ask you quite honestly,
Oh, lick me in my ass quickly,
quickly in my ass.
Oh dear friend, forgive me,
the ass, the ass I will sign,
Martin, Martin, forgive me!"

Monkey: That's a good one. Yeah, it's all sacreligious. Because the world has a German pope now, I figured some good ol' German church-bashing would be a nice touch.

klangston:

what immediately got my attention was the caricature of the bulldog with the broken chain. that was on the cover of a book i had that was filled with anti-facsist articles and cartoons. the book was a compilation of a magazine from the Weimar days up until about 1934 or 1935, when it seemed to cease publication (wonder why?)

The magazine was called Simplicissimus. I mention it because the last time I remeber seeing that book was when YOU took it to school for show & tell!

A little more research confirmed for me that the artist on that Simplicissimus dog was Thomas Theodor Heine He did most of the political art for the magazine. It was among the books that your grandfather passed on to me.
