Happy 18th Birthday Maria Sharapova! A music video by ESPN's Bristol Bob and the Page 2 Crue, made in honor of Maria Sharapova's 18th birthday. Make sure you crank the volume knob up to 11, because now you, too, can sing along to the tune of The Knack's "My Sharona."

Great. Another tennis player being marketed as a sex object (rather than a world class athlete, unlike her predecessor) by and to fat, 35 year old men that would likely have a heart attack if they tried to play about 15 minutes of tennis. Btw, is any of us old enough to remember what MTV did to pop music (killed it by elevating the cult of celebrity over the quality of the product) thinking that ESPN has done/is doing the same thing to sports?

Link no worky, btw.

Not even one reply, and the site is down already. Sheesh. Mirror?

Yes, yes, a thousand times yes.

18? Haven't people been talking about her forever? I'd thought she'd be like 35 already...

I just turned 35 but I am quite in shape, and even if I suck I usually manage a full hour on the court. I'm not crazy about Sharapova, though. maybe I need to gain weight?

Wow, that didn't take long to crash! It's linked from ESPN's Page 2...thought it would hold up. Sorry everyone! Oh, and by the way, I posted it because I thought the irony of it was funny, I wasn't supporting the marketing of Sharapova as a sex symbol or celebrity hype...I'm a true tennis fan.

It must be creepy for a teen girl knowing there are people in the world who are counting down to her being legal.... it was the same with the Olsen Twins, and Lindsey Lohan, and they're all pretty much gone crazy (older men, eating disorders, drugs). Times like this I'm glad I never became the teen star I always thought I wanted to be.

Looks like the link gets redirected now, should be working.

As a thirty-five year old man, (okay, thirty-six) I find the objectfication of someone that's barely old enough tho drive and not old enough to drink somewhat creepy.

But I wouldn't mind seeing pics of her mom.

Her mom is a notoriously bad tennis player, though, so.

Damn, that's some juvenile crapola. It's like The Z-103 Morning Zoo, but with pictures!

Heh. I knew they wouldn't do the middle 8 of that song. It's on my list of Great Pop Song Middle 8s That Almost No One Would Recognize Out of Context.

Other than that, um... kind of unremarkable, really.

I would like to make a comment about how Russian nationals do not age well and therefore there is a rush to get in some quality leering, but cannot think of a way to do it tactfully.

I'm 32, I'm fat and I masturbate. I didn't enjoy this either.

So, really, what's the big deal? I've got as much chance of fuckin' her now as I did when she wasn't legal. And there's just no way in hell she's going to pose naked. Why should I care?

The link's working again, many hours and posts later, and what the heck, I think it's kinda neat..."a champion...unlike Kournikova..." Snrk, snrk, snrk.

She's cute and athletic, but she's hardly the stuff of pin-up dreams. To each his own, I guess.

She received her first pro wildcards in California when she was 14. And she was oogled just as much then as now, prolly more so because she was so young.

Personally I do not see the appeal, as to me she looks like a tall stick with stringy blonde hair. But hey, if she doesn't mind being exploited...

great, as if that song wasn't creepy enough... first President Bush's iPod and now this

The key thing to remember about Sharapova is that she's actually a great tennis player. All the "new Kournikova" stuff is just so much nonsense. I'm sure she appreciates being more marketable for endorsements, but it doesn't really matter. In the long run, she'll be known more for being a great tennis player.

Well, as mentioned before I'm a true tennis fan and Sharapova is truly a great player. Nothing like the whole Anna K. situation. I just thought the fact that someone went through the effort to make this was funny. Especially being featured on ESPN.com and all. Plus it reminded me of the Lohan Freestyle rap that was floating around a little while back. In other news this weekend is the NFL draft...go Lions!
