Todd Parr, the inspiring children's author whose artwork has been compared to Keith Haring, was nominated for the Outstanding Children's Animated Program Emmy for his series, Toddworld. Yeah, Parr actually criticized Haring for being over the top when it came to content. But their artwork is unmistakably linked. "I'm a real big fan of Keith Haring, obviously," Parr told fans in a 2000 online chat. "My work, earlier, was compared to his, which was flattering, because I related to his work. That's a style that I wanted to do, but it was not acceptable because he crossed the line. It wasn't acceptable to me to do, but Keith Haring opened up a whole new world in the art with a simple style of bold images."

Yeah, Parr actually criticized Haring for being over the top when it came to content. I think the political complexity of Haring's work (the content) is why his work is considered art as opposed to illustration.

When someone quotes Woody Allen (90%, success, life, showing up, yadda yadda yadda) I will have a perfect visual. Thank you. Parr really doesn't deserve to be compared to Haring. It's just wrong.

No offense to Parr, but Haring was amazing with what he could do with a few lines. Plus, I love that photo of him naked, painted white, with stripes on his dong. Genius!

I love Keith Haring. And if his art (which is not children's art, and so there is no line to cross) influences even mediocre artists, I am glad.
