X.com ceases banking operations. Of course, all real gamers know that this is just a cover story for the real mission of XCOM -- fighting the exterrestrial invasion which has been going on in secret for the last fifteen years.

Xcom, one of the best games ever made.

Hmm, for a second there I was afraid that this meant they were killing PayPal. Now that would be a FuckedCompany if I ever knew one.

You have to wonder. The bank takes over PayPal, then stops banking. Now PayPal doesn't have FDIC protection, so I'd be a little worried about having money locked up there for too long.

I still play X-COM on a regular basis (Master of Orion too). For my money it's the best turn based strategy game ever. Totally engrosing! Sometimes I swear I can hear those poor civilians scream in my dreams. . .Repeat after me game designers: "It's the AI, stupid!" Good gameplay will always win out over fancy graphics in my book.I hope that X-COM Alliance will live up to the standard of the original.

What always amazed me about XCOM was that a turn-based game could be so tense. But it never made sense to me that the damned troop carrier didn't have windows, so the only way you could find out what was outside was by exposing someone to fire.

And it's frankly amazing that the game used 320*200 graphics, and achieved such spectactular results.

X.com got a lot of members originally for giving away $20 per new account (plus something for every referral). And now they're just throwing those members away? Nice use of that VC money!
