well if it's not photoshopped, which i'm not ruling out, it's the same event because she's in the same dress. So it must have been planned and done quickly. also looks like a lot of the background remains the same. Just the "shape" of the picture they show changes looking like a bunch of different angles and rooms when it's not that much. also, creeeeeepy.

i think this is a rather common phenomenon for girls this age. one of my very good friends was in a sorority during her college career. she very quickly learned from her sisters how to pose for an impromptu photograph. she had to figure out which side of her face she'd feature every time (pulling a camera out in front of a gaggle of these girls was like taking a magnet to iron filings--they'd automatically rearrange according to which side they wanted photographed), exactly what wattage her (pristine, stained-white) smile should be, and what look would best convey her kimmyness. it was all very complicated, and resulted in a series of photographs that would probably match up (face-wise, at least) just like these. myself, i like to make faces that stay like that at the camera.

If you pose yourself in a flattering way in every photo, with the same expression in every photo, you defeat the point of candid photos. The only thing your candid photos are documenting is your own fear and self-loathing. She only looks like Jennifer Wilbanks because she has that deer-caught-in-the-headlights, too-much-whites-of-the-eyes look on her face. I suppose that normal, well-adjusted people could look like that all the time, but we all associate that bug-eyed look with someone about to freak out.

This reminds me of a much more pleasant cinematic experience: Pan With Us, which I saw in this year's Animation Show by Mike Judge and Don Hertzfeldt. Many of the shorts were not as engaging as those in previous animation festivals I've seen, but I remebered this one well enough to spend 10 minutes searching around for it to post in this comment.

I disagree with the name of this site. I don't generally consider "really disturbing, cracked-out expression" to be the same as "expressionless." Seriously, there's a whole set of girls like "the expressionless one" where every picture they have involves themselves with their arm around somebody. Didn't The Onion or some other humor website do a thing on that?

the gif version is of higher quality than that of the flash. also, I don't find it odd at all that a person would have the same expression in multiple pictures, especially ones from the same event. People just think the "bugged-eyed" look is creepy, but hey, some people just look like that. whatever.
