Take one and pass it on...

Passing the 'Musical Baton' (link to google search, follow the many links therein).
A particularly virulent meme currently rampaging around the Blogosphere, whereby participants - 'baton holders', I guess - are invited to announce to the world:-
  1. The person (or persons) who passed the baton to them.
  2. Total volume of music files on their computer.
  3. The title and artist of the last CD they bought.
  4. Song playing at the moment of writing.
  5. Five songs they have been listening to of late (or all-time favorites, or particularly personally meaningful songs)
  6. The five people to whom they will themselves 'pass the musical baton'

A 21st Century Internet version of the chain letters of old - or indeed the more recent phenomenon of 'forward this story to 10 or your friends or [ something unpleasant ] may befall you' chain emails - but this time eventuating in something fun and informative?

Any Mefi'ers been passed the baton?
Any ideas from whence this meme sprung?

This post was deleted for the following reason: meh, a google search and some meme du jour isn't quite up to snuff

Also interesting is Caesar's Bath.

i have always wanted to rampage around a blogosphere.

I'd rather listen to music than to the blogosphere. And you know where you can stick that baton eh?

I've ignored email from my own mother for weeks for lesser offenses than this FPP. ;-P

So its not just me being amazed that this post is still here upon a refresh?

There could be a good discussion about this particular weblog-hopping thing (which I've seen several places, including mathowie's blog), but this post is essentially null.

I know how to use Google.

If you're interested in mindless chatter regarding nothing in particular, I suggest either John Knowles or MetaChat.

I like to brag to my iPod owning, but non-warez-savvy friends about my MP3 collection - currently resting comfortably at 5,980 files (individual tracks) and taking up 30.5 gigs of space. Not earth shattering by some standards, but then again my friends are prone to buying movie soundtracks and are easily impressed.

Oops.

Sorry all... first time I've found something moderately interesting on the Net that wasn't already linked and discussed to death on Mefi (well I thought it was interesting - or potentially interesting - but I'm clearly in a minority on that one!)

Reason I linked to the Google search wasn't to raise ire but simply to show how many blogs had been affected. I'm fully aware people know how to use Google.

I guess it just didn't occur to me that noone else would find the nature of how these kind of things spread interesting - or the inherent difference in this (as opposed to other chain-type communications) as the networked nature of the Net means you can - if motivated - follow the trail backwards and discover new music.

Reason I linked it was cause I thought it'd be interesting to discuss... this was my first thread - so I guess I should go back to lurking and posting the odd comment!

Again... sorry everyone.

Mefi overlords - delete away!

Sure, I'll participate in this harmless little meme. I've got 356.2 gigs of MP3s and-- wait, who's that knocking on my door?

bizzarely enough, I haven't seen the music one, but I just did the books version of this meme. I don't think that's particularly interesting or anything, but right now I'm tired enough to type shite when normally I wouldn't bother (anyone know why this happens? I'm sure I'm not the only person affected like this - my body is telling me 'sleep', but a corner of my mind that seems to have done a prett good job of hijacking most of my motor skills (allowing for typos) is saying 'no! stay up reading pointless stuff on the internet until your eyes won't actuallly stay open any more! type stream-of-consciousness drivel in every text box you see!')

It's just a meme. They happen. They're not particularly big or clever, and I'm not in the habit of doing every one I see just because someone whose blog I find interesting has done them, but on the other hand, sometimes I do. That's all.

There's nothing wrong with this post, stumcg. It's interesting to see what people are listening to (and linking to)--it reminds me of the "random 10" thing that just went around tho.

3. The title and artist of the last CD they bought.

5. Five songs they have been listening to of late
