Double post. It's the first thread that comes up when you search for "toad".

And both links are to the same page? Friendly tip, newsfilter that is more than a week old is usually not a great FPP.

New to me!
Another from MSNBC on the reason behind it. Initially I thought this was some kind of Day After Tomorrow DVD stunt. Too bad, cuz that would be actually be pretty cool.

No worries - it is interesting and I say you can never have too many exploding toad posts.

"on the reason behind it"... potential reason. Nothing but hypothesis at the current time.

True, I got mixed up wtih an article I read in the Guardian (Mirrored here) prior to posting the MSNBC one. The Guardian does attribute it to the crows. But, mea culpa.

The last toads I saw weren't exploding, but damn... it was straight out of a horror film. I'm talking descending into a basement, and walking past a man at a desk with a giant skull into a dimly lit room with thousands of corpses in jars. Sometimes just one corpse, sometimes 60 massive frogs in two gallons of alcohol. At the far end of the room, a 10 foot stuffed crocodile at eye level.

What I'm trying to say is, Chicago's Field Museum basement is amazing. Really, All of the effort museums got through to display their specimens nicely is totally wasted. The kids would be so happy to see them just the way they're stored.

And if one of those specimens happened to be an exploding toad...
