For those mercifully unaware, it's derived from a horrible line in the movie Finding Forrester, which stars Sean Connery as a crusty author (?) who teaches a poor black kid about writing. Or something, I don't remember the plot. Just the inane moment where Sean Connery ACTUALLY SAYS "you're the man now dog!"

That scene in the movie was excruciating. It quite nearly ruined the entire movie for me. So, Darth Vader, you've betrayed everything you've ever known or believed in, and you've been fully consumed both physically and spiritually by the Dark Side (tm). I know, why don't you scream in a heavily cliched style? Noooooooooooooooooooooooooooo! Someone should have told Lucas what a stupid fuck he was/is and stopped him from putting that scene in the movie.

I wish to slap Lucas around with a large trout. He got so much right with that movie. How could anyone let him get away with completely ruining what's arguably the single most important scene in THE ENTIRE SERIES!? My one consolation is that he could fix it just by redubbing a couple bits both spoken by characters whose mouths we cannot see. This would make the ADR a cinch. So maybe if he notices EVERYONE IN THE WORLD mocking Vader's "noooooo," it's not too late to change it for the DVD.

Plot and acting are, and always have been, secondary. Which is fine when they're structured as dumb cliffhanger action movies with a little myth for padding. When they're supposed to be epic dramas with loads of political intrigue and a tragic character arc, plot and acting wind up mattering quite a bit.

I think I'm the only person alive who didn't find that scene particularly "cheesy", "overwrought", or "ruining to the movie". I thought it sounded like exactly what Hayden as Anakin would do in his own voice if he still had it (only with raw emotion and angst to inflect it). It just so happened that his voice was the rather emotionless James Earl Jones at the time. He can't exactly control how his mechanically-enabled voice is able to express what he's feeling, can he?

Midnightblue, have you seen this Futurama episode, where Calculon shows off his acting chops in a clip from All My Circuits? That's really what does it for me. Having seen that clip several years ago, there's no way I could get through the Vader scene without stifling a laugh. There's an audio clip here, #8. Anybody have video?

Midnightblue. No, you're not the only one. I thought the 'Nooo!' could've gone on a few seconds longer in fact ;-) I've said it before and it bears repeating - the added bonus of EPs I-III has been the equally epic amount of nerd-froth that has been spat forth against, well, almost everything to do with everything about all six movies. Intentional or not, Lucas knows how to push the buttons of people who...well, let's face it, aren't exactly contributing massively to the flowing cultural fabric of the world...or something...

I think the only real problem with the I-III is they where too complex in comparison with IV-VI. (I say this as a fan of complex movies) Star Wars was never about good acting. It was basic mythology with cool special effects. Basic mythology means, BASIC. I-III tried to pack too much extraneous stuff, and changed how some key supporting figures behaved (i.e. Yoda and R2D2), no wonder people bitch about it.

This is fucking hilarious. Me and my wife went to see EpIII last week and we both laughed out loud in the cinema at the Frankenstein scene. No, we didn't like the film.
