After the theft of a Dalek from a UK tourist attraction, its "kidnappers" have delivered a ransom note - and its severed plunger.

From the last link: Former Dr Who actor Colin Baker has been in touch with staff at the attraction, and may be asked to send a message to the kidnappers.

Colin Baker? I bet they won't give it back for anyone less than Tom Baker.

I tell ya, even as a kid I got no respect...
I got kidnapped, and they sent a piece of my finger to my parents. My old man said he wanted more proof.

Back in the early '80's there was a trailer full of Dr. Who props and assorted crap that would tour the convention circuits. One of my young friends paid for admission to the trailer at one particularly bad convention and realized that security was rather lax and additionally that nothing was actually bolted down. The case containing K-9 (mark ?)was actually a lexan box which simply lifted off. Afraid he would be caught trying to exit the trailer with the bulky robot, my friend settled for simply taking a few small pieces of the Tardis set, which he prominently displayed to all of his nerd friends such as me.

True story, embarrassed to tell it.

I tried calling Jessie Jackson for assistance, but he simply remarked, "the Mk. II Travel Machine was one of the most versatile, and certainly durable modules produced from your planetary community on Skaro. I'm quite confident it can take care of itself."

Then he hung up on me.

It doesn't matter if the guy has a point, of course - it's the principle, damnit!

Why would a ransom note have a plunger in the first place?

"there is also the idea that it could be heading to Edinburgh for the G8 protests."

If the Dalek shows up at the G8 protests, I will consider my life complete.

"The police think it was probably taken by kids or students, but there is also the idea that it could be heading to Edinburgh for the G8 protests."

That would be hillarious.

I can just hear all the speculation that this is connected to the "Bad Wolf" scenario.

I'm sure there's nothing to worry about. Sonic screwdriver can get that arm right back on, no problem.
