Biojewellery. Thought titanium was 'a bit different' for your wedding rings? Have you considered a ring made from your own bioengineered bone tissue?* Apparently the instigators are "...interested in how technological innovation is used by human needs and desire rather than the pure functionality of the innovation." A short report here. *May require extraction of wisdom teeth

My fiancee I applied for this, many months ago. It turned out that the project is only looking for applicants within the UK, sadly. We had both really fallen in love with the idea.

To be honest, we haven't even discussed rings once since we were told that we can't participate. Gold and silver just seems so impersonal, now.

Although the prospect of wearing a ring of (presumably) my wife's bone makes me slightly queasy, even if bioengineered, at least it beats that couple that bit the tips of each other's fingers off on the BME site. Now THAT was fucked up.

I had heard of this before somewhere... it makes me wish both that my oral surgeon had saved my wisdom teeth! I would have liked to do something awesome with them.

(Though my impression from the surgery is that he had to break them into tiny pieces to get them out of my jaw, so I guess there wasn't much worth saving. One of my husband's wisdom teeth is lying around the house [in sterile packing] and I'm just waiting for inspiration to use it in some sort of art project.)

Who got the recipe?

This could become part of the tragic engagement process..."I went in and smashed the distraction device--and now i want him back!"

Does this mean that - at long last - I can finally have antlers?

rikabel -- grab some dough & let's ride the bone highway.

wait, that doesn't sound quite right.

I can't wait until the body modders find out about this and start having their wisdom teeth bio engineered into horns that they'll get implanted under the skin on their foreheads.

That will be so totally cool.

Well, mocking them will be so totally cool really.

I don't really think I'd be all that interested in a wedding band made out of my wife's bones. Its a little creepy and gross.
