Although I'm totally not religious, I tend to cut some slack to people who want to express their spiritual sides. But for the life of me I can't comprehend their antipathy towards evolution, or how someone could argue against evolution, or WHY someone would argue against evolution. Anyone who's ever watched monkeys in a zoo can see we came from the same place. Creationism strikes me as willful ignorance, toward an end I can't fathom.

And another obscure sketch comedy reference award goes to NickDouglas, for his stunning use of UCB in a mefi thread about evolution. *applause* Videos people, videos. The market for this kind of stuff isn't into "reading." Especially if they don't have to. We need to recruit a few scientists with EQs over 12 to carefully, slowly explain the issue on a DVD. The program should include wacky sports out takes and a few motorcycle stunts, as well as a neat segment about dogs who do human jobs. The first part of the movie should NOT talk about the difference between fruitflies and fruitflies with funny tail attachments. It should talk about the difference between science and religious beliefs. I know the temptation is to fight this thing with as much logical scientific reasoning as possible, but we're not defending a thesis before a board of selected academics. It's like trying to explain my opinion supply-side economics to my Dad. It doesn't matter that I'm right, or that the data demonstrates that I'm right. My position is complicated, so it is hard to sell him on it. Evolution can be complicated. We have to sell these people on it.
