I wouldn't have thought of eating roomie's ice cream. Til she put a lock on it. Then it became a challenge. Now working on creating a prosthetic bottom panel for the Ben & Jerry's carton...

I don't need the padlock, I need a timer lock like a bank vault -- so that it can only be opened in 12-hour intervals, or etc. Otherwise what's to keep ME from opening the damn thing?

I'm so glad my roommate and I trust each other - we share the ice-cream, and it's been okay so far. But I've been lucky on the roommate side. But next year, when I live with my fiance - that's when there will be trouble!

I'm just glad that my roomate and I have such divergent tastes in food that the temptation isn't even there to eat his. It even crosses over to ice cream flavours. Him: Spicy, cheese, and/or things I'm allergic to. Me: Bland, a green leafy substance, and/or whatever weird thingy I picked up from Pike Place Market this week.

Thank goodness this wasn't around when I used to take great pleasure in eating all the cookie dough lumps out of my jerk roommates cookie dough Ben and Jerry's. Think of all the cookie dough I wouldn't have eaten! A somewhat related story: Before we were married my girlfriend was living with a roommate that drove me nuts. She loved Lucky Charms, so mornings when I was there and she wasn't, I'd pour two bowls, pull all the marshmallows out of one, enjoy a supercharged bowl of double marshmallow goodness, and return the extra bowl of (now) plain cereal to the box. (we're actually very close now, and when I told her the story she laughed and told me she thought she kept buying bum boxes)

A somewhat related story: ...She loved Lucky Charms, so mornings when I was there and she wasn't, I'd pour two bowls, pull all the marshmallows out of one, enjoy a supercharged bowl of double marshmallow goodness... A somewhat related, related story. My great-uncle Louis's son-in-law was a food scientist for Kraft Foods in Chicago (Uncle Louis worked for the original J.L. Kraft, and was tarred & feathered in Texas as a result--but that's another related story). S-i-L always claimed he was in on the creation of the Lucky Charms "marshmallow goodness." Dunno if he was or not, but they always had 20lb. bags of those and other food oddities handy. Made it fun for a kid to visit the relatives.
