There is nothing that will set off a chorus of "Whom are you kiddin'?" at a party as when you say you can lift any man in the gang over your head with one hand and walk away with him.

The archaic language is the best thing on the site. There's a certain type of writing found only in ancient dime-pamphlets which is very entertaining. The tricks are good too, I'm going to drive a nail through something next chance I get - of course I'll have to make sure I bring my ball of cloth.

I have seen it recommended elsewhere that you bake the phone book in the oven at 350 for a while to soften it up.

I honestly did just try to rip a 2 inch thick phone book in half. I admit to cheating a little by starting the first 3 or 4 pages, by making a little rip. Then I bent the book as shown in the stunt, and I actually got about half way through it before I mistakenly straightened the pages out. I think my hands are too small to start with a book that thick. Awesome, mjjj! I'm going to practice at work on the sly (we only have about, oh, 100 or so old phone books here) and then I'm going to amaze my friends and relatives with my inhuman strength. Don't mess with me.

On preview: brings new meaning to the words cook book - will try that!

gilder, woe is you, you've stumbled on one of my pet peeves - tho I am sue you meant well. But I am driven a bit batty when someone - not just you - steps in-thread to state where the poster found the link. It's a little presumptuous to do that, no?

I couldn't remember where I found "stunts" but when you pointed out wmmna, I knew it wasn't my source because I rarely visit there. And it wan't Tacky Times (whose link was unattributed, incidentally) because I had never heard of that. But your *correction* nettled me a bit so I googled to dig up my source ... Chris at Cynical C - a real gem of a blog - posted way back on May 5th, several weeks before anyone else picked it up. I wish I had credited him which is my custom more often than not because he has a fine blog. But the link probably didn't start there either. Chris says he gets his links from other blogs. Maybe he got it from Geisha Asobi who ran this eons ago. Or perhaps from our own dobbs who posted the parent site here some months ago.

My point is - no one owns links. They are out there for anyone to find. Myself, I have sometimes unearthed *original* links only to see them picked up here or on Boing Boing within a matter of hours with no attribution - c'est la vie, that's the internets for ya. Links really have no parents beyond the site creator.

So pardon my nutty little derail, but as I said, it is a pet peeve and I wanted to state my thoughts on the matter once & for all. But something good has come of it because Tacky Times has been a great discovery for me, so thanks for that pointer. Now excuse me while I go steal some of their links. ;-)

Not quite. You use a MUCH MUCH lower temperature. The idea isn't to soften it up — it's to "brittle" it up a bit by removing the mosture. (Recall how really old paper almost bursts into slivers under the touch. Same principle. "Heat" replacing "time" in this equation.)

how does she do it?

this was the best. derail. ever.

madamjujujive, just a clarification, my comment was offered in the spirit of the FPP. man lifts 1000 lbs, audience visibly impressed wonder "how does he do it?"

and then in a FPP revealing how amazing feats of strength are performed, the thread derailed into a discussion about how amazing feats of FPPing are performed. fantastic.

not having the time, or interest, to hang out on every internet street corner, i could care less where a poster stops and cops her links. as long as the smoke is first rate, i'm stoked.

if it keeps me from having to visit dangerous internet neighborhoods, so much the better.
