I like the Codex Seraphinianus drawings (and the link to an explanation) and some of the photographs, but isn't this just some blog?

P.S. It always cracks me up that "blog" is not in the spellcheck dictionary.

A blog that hasn't been updated since mid-April? Am I missing something here?

Are you trying to get banned, or something? I really don't get it. A link to a link farm blog where the links don't work?

Does nobody know where the wording of the FPP comes from? Huh?

Why are people being so nasty about this post? It's a link to what looks like an excellent blog. So what if it "hasn't been updated since mid-April"? The Sappho poem recently linked to hasn't been updated in over 2,500 years. Ignore the idiots, msacheson—this is a fine post, and I thank you for pointing me to that gorgeous collection of images.

Having an opinion that doesn't agree with yours doesn't make me an asshole or an idiot, despite what you might think.

I visited the site. It had a couple of nice pictures and a bunch of broken links. I asked msacheson if I was missing something, since I couldn't derive his point via the title or the linked text he selected. Instead of addressing the question, he picked on a minor grammatical issue in my comment.

I thought when somebody made a post here, you were allowed to comment on the quality and/or the content of the post. If I'm wrong, then please clarify because a lot of people comment on the quality of a post every day (and it happened a few times inside this thread).

And if I'm not wrong, then take your namecalling back to the playground and STFU.

Some of us just really didn't get it. Using the text from the link submission form made me think he was making some inside joke. My response of "Are you trying to get banned?" was the my only guess at what that inside joke might be. He was linking to his own blog to make some point. There were just far too many layers of meta going on for me to read it as a straightforward "Check out this site I found". The Codex is cool. Probably would have been better off making a FPP about that.
posted by team lowkey at 4:36 PM on June 24, 2005

There is no inside joke. There is no joke or anything to 'get'. Not every MeFi post has to mean something or be taken so seriously. The title was just something that occurred to me while I was on the 'post' page, and it fit, since I think the site was just a simple, cool little blog, like the ones that used to get noticed by MeFites. I thought it was cool and wanted to share it. Nothing to be deciphered.

Cool post because different topics/discussions appeal to different people.

I brought up the question on $5 membership because 27 made the comment on $5 mefites being responsible for shitty posts. My comment was not a criticism of msacheson, but the possibility of elitism in mefi.
posted by Chimp at 7:44 PM on June 24, 2005

I don't know what the Codex is, actually, but now I want to know. Is it some sort of "Fight Club" that you're not allowed to talk about?

Oh wow...I got very close to making up an FPP yesterday about the Giornale Nuovo's piece on Lequeu (but he did such a good job fleshing it out I felt it would be direct pilfering). My compliments to you misteraitch on a premium quality site and thanks also for the codex scanning!
So many great bloggers belong to MeFi.
posted by peacay at 6:37 PM on June 25, 2005

The linked-to site has some fine, lovely images. Certainly a better link than a great many things found on the FP.

This is not why this FPP sucks, and suck it does. I pray that this nondescriptive coyness does not catch on.

Consider how much less useful MeFi would be if all other links were posted in this way. Completely unsearchable, completely unfilterable by eye ("oh, I'm not interested in that stuff"). There are hundreds of links a day, some of them even with tags.
