Legitimate MP3 downloads! If you like the big beat duo The Chemical Brothers, I'm sure you'll be impressed by these two excellent remixes: Flip The Switch & Believe EP. Primal Scream's deep house masterpiece is given similarly impressive treatment in Screamixadelica. Maybe you prefer the punkier electronica of The Prodigy; check out Always Outsiders, Never Outdone. BTW don't forget to donate to the nominated charities on each site if you decide to keep the tracks.

On slightly more dodgy ground, copyright-wise, are the remixes and mashups from tone396, lionel vinyl, fakeID & Go Home Productions (these are clearly only a handful of artists, but in my opinion are some of the best) - I wonder how, or even if you can, apply copyright laws to some of these kinds of hybrid productions.

So, how do we know these are "Legitimate MP3 Downloads"? I'm wondering because I don't see anything on http://www.chemicalbrothersremixed.com/ to indicate that the remixers got permission from the copyright holders; am I missing something somewhere?

Good stuff. Kid Kameleon, DJ/Rupture (previously) and DJ Shitmat are some other artists with free mixes. Strictly Kev's Raiding the 21st Century: A History of the Cut-up is phenomenal.

All great links. I'd like to add my personal favorites Loo & Placido to the mix. Though I can't seem to find their free downloads at the moment... I've been waiting to make my first MeFi post for a while now, but I suppose it would have been somewhat along these lines anyway. But then again I'm a bit biased.

Good question Mistersix. I forgot to mention this... but there's nothing "legitimate" about 99% of these downloads. The Chemical Brothers did not sanction the remix album, but we heard through the grapevine that they liked it. (And aren't taking action.) We're not profiting from these remixes, mashups and bootlegs. Most of us do it for fun, and the better ones do it for fun and to showcase their production talent, in hopes of doing official ("legitimate") remixes for artists. I'm still at the "just fun" stage.

You know, all these remixes and mashups encourage people to check out the originals! I've discovered a whole range of artists through these bootlegs!
