Fomalhaut is the Watcher star of Pisces Avstrinvs, the Southern Fish which lies at the feet of Aquarius and drinks the outpouring of the Waterbearer (Aquarius). In the Bible, Fomalhaut is called Albemuth and seems to predict the nature of the nature of the Aeon of Horus: [Joel 2:28.30] "And it shall come to pass afterward, that I will pour out my spirit on all flesh; your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, your old men shall dream dreams, and your young men shall see visions. If the NASA scientists had studied some occultism or played Call of Chthulu even, they wouldn't have been suprised. Ron: "Say Dave, I bet when that photo of Fomalhaut from the Hubble develops the gas ring looks like a giant eye" Dave: "...ok, your on." ( picture develops) Dave: "How did you...?" Ron: *snickers* goes back to reading copy of "The Dweller in Darkness." Eventually goes mad.

Most of the eye-like features are caused by the photographic processes. The real thing probably looks like a star with a very dim ring around it. Very bad-ass, but I wonder if they don't happen to have a mountain of pictures that look very similar to this.
