His feet fell asleep. Irish men often have problems with their feet. They get cold.

Incidentally, this perfectly describes my ex-wife and myself's wedding night.

Well, why would anyone care about things like this, for example, when you can get whole bunch of bees to land on your ass?

My apartment complex is called the "Bee Hive". There are not any bees here. As exciting as this post is/was, I just had to add that comment.

I love how no matter what the outcome, this guy was destined to get a news story. Irish Man Fails to Set World Bee Record, Irish Man Sets New World Bee Record, Irish Man Stung to Death by Bees...

I, too, have failed at this.

Haven't we all. This story interested me because on Monday, when my English friend emailed it to me, my son and I were across on the other side of the island here dealing with thousands of dead bees.

Not our usual daily routine. A friend called who had raised bees for years, then had his hives die last winter due to varroa mites. He hadn't bothered to replace them because he was dealing with other things — specifically, because his long-time wife was given two months to live in May 2004, due to terminal cancer.

She maybe is not going strong, but she still is going, though. Apparently she recently decided that the old home place wasn't the same without bees around, so she asked him to start a new hive. Since he is now in his 70s, he wanted help with cleaning out the old hive frames, and dealing with the thousands of rotting bee carcasses. So off we 'flew' to his aid.

We took along all sorts of clothing to protect against stings, but since we dealt almost entirely with the old dead bees, not the new ones just delivered in the 'nuke' (nucleus) box, that wasn't a problem.

Speaking of the link, the version of the story that I saw (which also has a much better photo) seemed to indicate that the guy thought one reason he couldn't set the record is that they count the bees by weight, and Irish bees are not so hefty as the American ones.

Has anyone noticed that the bees do not appear in specific places?

Yes. For some reason, bees cannot hang on to a man's upper thigh. Try it.

buzzman I find this statement highly suspect. It is especially so when your name is put into account. Buzzman, eh? I think you are compensating for your covert alliance with the bee nation. As Shakespeare wrote, "thou protest too much."

I was sure this must be a misprint for "Irish Man Fails to Set World Beer Record."

On a more sober note, that mite is no little thing. I read recently that 98% of North Carolina's wild bee population has been killed off and the domestics are in trouble. Being a bee keeper these days is fraught with sorrow. Me, I just appreciate every single bee that wanders by to visit my lavender.
